Imagine almost burning your house down after building a basic DIY sauna.
Well, YouTuber Jay Swingler shared his close call after building a homemade sauna in his backyard.
While it sounds innocent enough, cheap projects don't always end well.

Originally, he admitted to spending $10k on a home sauna but 'once the excitement wore off,' he wanted to get his money back by creating his own.
Using AI technology and simulations, he designed the sauna and calculated how many wooden panels he’d need.
Jay said the idea for the project came from when his lifestyle shift in which he transformed from eating fast food everyday to a boxing and fitness-based one.
And after regularly spending hundreds of pounds on saunas, Jay wanted to prove that looking after your health shouldn't cost you a bomb.

He and his friends searched the Facebook marketplace, local warehouses and shops for wooden pallets.
In the video, Jay and his crew took apart pallets one by one to create the exterior, four walls and a roof and then the interior.
They designed two benches: one for medium heat and one for extreme heat.
Setting himself a budget of £500 ($640), Jay finished the sauna costing him a total of £491.20 ($628.90).

Then, it all took a dark turn.
A notification came through from Ring doorbell to tell Jay his garden was on fire. Turns out, smoke had filled the back garden as he ran to discover his DIY sauna had entirely gone up in flames.
'What have I done? What have we done?' Jay exclaimed as he attempted to put out the flames with a hose.

'We need to call the fire brigade.'
Thankfully, no major harm was done. The fire brigade arrived in time, and the fire didn’t spread to the YouTuber's house.
But it was definitely a life lesson for Jay.
'We got a sauna cheap,' Jay said. Showing the charred remains, he added: 'And what you can see right now is the outcome of doing it the cheap way.

'It was not worth it. And I do not advise anybody do this. I'll see you in the next video with something more safe.'
Though he did manage to capture an unimpressed selfie for memory next to the burning sauna with the firefighters putting out the fire in the background.
