Elon Musk's ex Grimes speaks out on the billionaire's 'dark platform' as she returns to social media

She wasted no time in seemingly firing shots at the father of her children

It doesn't sound like Elon Musk and Grimes are going to be kissing and making up anytime soon, with the Canadian musician returning from her social media break, only to seemingly call out her ex. While Musk and Grimes (real name Claire Boucher) originally started dating in 2018, it became something of an on-again, off-again relationship before they called it off for good in 2022.

Despite their fractious relationship, the pair shares three children. While we don't see much of two-year-old Tau Techno Mechanicus and three-year-old Exa Dark Sideræl, she's called out Elon Musk for 'pardaing' X Æ A-Xii (now called X) around the White House.

Grimes has previously sent seemingly pointed posts about 'power hungry warlords', but at the same time has also criticised those who constantly bring her back into the conversation every time the world's richest man does something controversial.

After issuing a desperate plea for Musk to stop ignoring her amid a medical crisis with one of their children, she then claims she 'begged' their father to keep them offline, and promptly took a break from social media.

Coming back with a vengeance, she opened up about her own struggles and wrote: "'I've been way more offline lately, tried all the apps for a bit yesterday and man! It's rly dark on here!

"I think it's very unhealthy to be on social media, it feels like a ghost town of depression, bitterness and pictures of beautiful women doing sext things I feel like this is a massive moral failure of all the apps. And it's causing great harm to society."

Although she doesn't directly name Musk, the mention of it being 'dark' here echoes what a lot of people are saying about the platform. As for the mention of social media "causing great harm to society," we don't imagine Mr. Musk will be too happy with that one.

She went on to suggest that her online activity and posting politically has led to her feed being clogged with negativity. Grimes also argued that many on X are fighting over 'fake problems' instead of working together to fight issues with legislation and the like.

Interestingly, she then seemed to walk back some of it when she responded to someone saying Twitter is better than the rest of the social media platforms. Boucher replied: "Yes Twitter is better than the others it's the only one I still actually use and it's very good for information transfer in the fog of war."

Still, note that she called it Twitter instead of X - possibly as another jab at her ex.

Musk famously purchased the platform in October 2022 for $44 billion, then spent a ton rebranding it as X while removing features like the ability to block.

In a February 2025 interview with Time, Grimes suggested she was trying to spend less time on X, telling the outlet: "I've actually been mostly off besides a couple days since the end of January or something. It's just where all the cutting-edge news is, and all my friends use it, and the AI stuff.

"And it's good to keep track of the political stuff. Ultimately, I don't know. I love to debate. I like getting in fights. They hate me less on Twitter than everywhere else."

Even though X might still be Grimes' choice of platform when it comes to social media, her history with Musk suggests that she won't be rushing to thank him for taking it over.
