There have been some truly great space games over the years, with the likes of System Shock, Mass Effect 2, Super Mario Galaxy, and Alien: Isolation immediately coming to mind. It sadly seems that Starfield might not live up to Bethesda's hype of it being the next Skyrim, but fear not, because another acclaimed developer is blasting off to the stars.
Revealed at The Game Awards 2024, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is the latest game from Naughty Dog.
You might know Naughty Dog as the developer that found its start with Crash Bandicoot and then went in a wildly different direction with the Uncharted games. These days, it's remembered for the mushroom madness of 2013's The Last of Us, its 2020 sequel, and HBO's live-action adaptation.

Naughty Dog is trying something even more different with Intergalactic in a trailer that's captured with in-game PlayStation 5 cinematics.
We're placed in the shoes of Jordan A. Mun, who is a 'dangerous' bounty hunter who gets stranded on a distant planet of Sempiria in an alternate version of 1986 where technology is far more advanced than ours.
The trailer introduces us to Tati Gabrielle's Jordan and her eye-patched agent, AJ, with Jordan hunting a lead to Sempiria's moon. It's clear there's something strange about Sempiria, with a mention that no one has left the planet in 600 years.

The target is Colin Graves, with eagle-eyed fans spotting what looks like Kumail Nanjiani playing him. It also looks like one big advert for product placement, with brands including Porsche, Adidas, and (obviously) Sony all appearing in the trailer for the PlayStation-exclusive game.
Having been in development since 2020, Intergalactic is tipped as "an emotional, character-driven epic journey" that will boast the 'deepest gameplay' of any Naughty Dog game so far.
Posting on a PlayStation blog following the reveal, Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann said more details are being kept under wraps for now. Although it looks to be a third-person game like The Last of Us, the potential for space combat is a big win for sci-fi fans. We're getting some serious Aliens vibes from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and with the stories of The Last of Us' two outings seeing them earn praise as some of the best video games of all time, Naughty Dog's first new IP since 2013 is one to watch.

Although there are hopes that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will eventually get a PC release, it could be another big reason to stump up for a PS5.
There's also no release date yet, which is likely a bad sign that we might not be seeing this one anytime soon. Still, with details relatively thin on the ground, at least it'll give us plenty of time to get to know Jordan before we blast off on her adventure.
If you want to scratch your Naughty Dog itch, at least The Last of Us: Part II Remastered is coming to PC on April 3, 2025.
