PlayStation launch jaw-dropping new piece of hardware but it's only available for a limited time

It's a 'must-have' for fans of a popular series

PlayStation's latest release is likely one that you'll have to fight hard to get a hold of, as the limited-release peripheral is a 'must-have' for fans of one of Sony's most iconic series.

Limited edition releases have become a somewhat frustrating staple within the world of gaming, as while those who get theirs hands on the product can feel smug that they've got a rare release, others are left empty handed or subject to staggeringly high secondhand prices.

PlayStation are no strangers to this phenomenon themselves either, as the extremely popular Anniversary Edition of the PS5 Pro was perfect for scalpers who instantly put it up for thousands of dollars moments after purchases went live.

Regardless of the frustration many might feel about missing out, there's plenty of excitement to be had for one particular upcoming hardware drop, as it pays homage to a game series that you're bound to love.

Commemorating The Last of Us is a new limited-edition DualSense controller design, featuring a stunning look that celebrates many of the series' most iconic moments, as reported by GAMINGbible.

Ellie's moth tattoo, the Firefly and WLF icons, and many more are emblazoned across the controller's face in a gorgeous black and white colourway that's hard to resist.

Creative Director Neil Druckmann has outlined that the team at Naughty Dog is "excited by the chance to memorialize The Last of Us franchise in a controller that fans and our own team would love," adding that "we wanted to ensure that both installments of The Last of Us are represented, via trophy icons printed in black gloss across the controller body."

Compared to some limited edition releases too it's not that much more expensive, as you'll only need to fork out $84.99 to pick up the controller, which is just $10 more than a standard DualSense.

The elephant in the room here is whether you'll be lucky enough to actually get the opportunity to spend the money, as you'll be fighting it out with countless other eager fans and collectors when pre-orders go live on March 14, 2025.

If your current controller is starting to get the dreaded stick drift, or you simply want a way to show your love for The Last of Us, then this irresistible peripheral might be one for you.

"I might actually buy this cause I like the franchise & it's gonna be HELLA valuable & rare in the future," remarks one fan on X, with another adding that they "originally came to the comments to throw shade, but then realized I wanted one too."

You might end up not having as much competition as expected though, as some have expressed their disappointed at the supposedly 'limited' design.

"This looks like 'Do It Yourself' type of low effort," writes one frustrated gamer, with another offering a simple "yuck" at the prospect of white thumbsticks.
