The iPad could finally be getting a long awaited app that users have been waiting over 15 years for.
Meta have announced that the popular app could soon be available after spending a decade and a half being just an iPhone experience for Apple fans.
But now, the tech giant is working on a version designed specifically for the iPad.

Instagram was first launched back in 2010 and while the app boasts a whopping two billion monthly active users, its parent company has long resisted an iPad version.
This is partly due to the fact that Instagram was originally intended to have pictures and video shot directly on the device it was uploading from.

iPads also have inferior cameras to the iPhone and capturing images isn’t a primary function for most users.

However, that all appears to be changing according to a report by The Information.
In the report, a current employee shared that Instagram is working on a new app specifically for iPads.
iPad users can currently only access the photo sharing app by downloading a version designed for iPhones.
This isn’t a great experience as the app appears zoomed in on iPad screens.

Rumors of an Instagram app for the iPad first started circulating back in 2021.
Adam Mosheri, who is the head of Instagram, said at the time: “I spent a bit of time on an iPad because I was on a flight, but still no iPad app for Instagram.
“It would be nice to do, but there’s a lot to do and only so many people, so it hasn’t made the cut.”

A year later, Mosheri said: “It’s still just not a big enough group of people to be a priority. Hoping to get to it at some point, but right now we’re very heads down on other things.”
However, the tide could well be turning with the bigwigs of Instagram, which is something people have been asking for on social media for years.
On Reddit, one user asked: “Why haven’t they made a fitting instagram update for the iPad?”
Another replied with: “It’s because they intend it to be an app you use on your phone, not a tablet. For whatever reason, that’s what they’re sticking with. I think it’s weird, but they can have whatever design language they want.”

But a third person did have a solution in the meantime, adding: “Open instagram on safari then save it to home screen and you’ll have a better experience trust me.”
