Recent mysterious drone sightings in New Jersey have led many to speculate their origins, but one security expert has offered his interpretation - especially after the Pentagon have revealed the 'truth' of the situation.
Unknown drones would typically send any government into a panic, as they could be an attempt at spying or even a threat of attack, yet the US Government remained calm and unaggressive when mysterious flying gadgets appeared in the New Jersey sky.

While many have extended theories as far as aliens, Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh settled the matter by assuring that there was "no evidence" that the drones are "coming from a foreign entity or the work of an adversary."
She continued on to declare: "We are going to continue to monitor what is happening. But, you know, at no point were our installations threatened when this activity was occurring."
That, of course, still doesn't reveal the origin of these strange unidentified flying objects, leading many to continue their speculations and conspiracies.
Former Navy SEAL and current security company owner Clint Emerson has his own theories though, as reported by the New York Post, pointing out that while what the Pentagon is saying might be true, there's perhaps more going on behind the scenes.

"My first guess is these are potentially government programs kept within what's known as a 'Special Access Program,' which is purposely put together to keep even the most cleared people out - it truly is to keep it secret.
"That's why the Government's like, 'We don't know.' They're being truthful. They don't even know the program exists."
That is certainly an intriguing hypothesis, that the Government - at least in it's public-facing form aren't necessarily 'hiding' anything but that they're as in the dark as the rest of us.

Seeing as it's been confirmed that the objects aren't a foreign entity and that there was no perceived threat, it's not hard to land on believing it's some secret project that only a select few are aware of in the highest ranks.
Secret and unknown technology has to be tested somehow after all, and it's perhaps just unlucky for them that this one in particular was spotted and therefore had to be explained.
Emerson pointed out that the tech "could be different types of collection capabilities - so, different types of cameras, like high-definition, infrared, or thermal," indicating that it could also be a data collection test, as New Jersey is the most densely populated state across the whole of the US.
It's unlikely that we'll get a concrete answer any time soon - if at all - but this certainly seems like a more viable hypothesis than any of the alien-based theories that have been circulating social media.
