Not everyone is a fan of the open plan work space

A tour of Nvidia’s offices has revealed 1,000,000-square feet of open plan space which viewers have claimed look like a ‘soul crushing’ place to work.

The tech giant is an AI microchip maker who earlier this year, saw its share prices rise to be worth more than three trillion dollars.

In June, they became the world’s second most valuable company, claiming the spot from Apple.

Their headquarters, which are located in Santa Clara, California, are now one of the most sought-after places to work.

A tour of the place was documented by The Wall Street Journal which unveiled an open plan office with over a million square feet of space.

There, the campus has work spaces for 5,000 employees and an architect explained his thought process behind the project.

He said: “We always talked about the ideal way to get everybody to collaborate, to get everybody in one room.”

However, a major issue with open plan spaces is the noise it generates and the architect went on to detail how he combated that, adding: “I mean, if we’re in one room with 3,500 people, that can be incredibly noisy so the shaping of the roof helps mitigate the sound.”

The space comes with different places to grab a coffee throughout the day and even has its own bar.

However, not everyone is a fan of the design with many taking to the YouTube comment section to share their own thoughts after watching the tour.

One user wrote: “Soul crushing liminal space not unlike a drab mall or airport. Would love to hear what the employees who have to work there think.”

A second said: “We heard what the architects think, but would love to hear what the people working there think of this design.”

A third posted: “They’ve managed to design something that makes you feel lonely even when you’re with others. Now that is talent.”

A four joked: “So they work in what is basically a giant school cafeteria? Lol.”

And a fifth person added: “My dream is to never work in open offices again. I have yet to be in an open office that doesn't suck the soul out of you and leave you drained with a headache at the end of the day.

“I always end up sitting with my AirPods Pro in my ears all day to get some peace and quiet time to focus on actually working.”
