While most of us know Mike Myers for playing Austin Powers or providing the voice of Shrek, it seems inevitable that he'll also go down in history for playing Elon Musk. Even though Dana Carvey has previously played the eccentric billionaire on Saturday Night Live, it pales in comparison to Myers' portrayal of the world's richest man.
In the aftermath of a disastrous meeting between Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the USA’s President Trump, it was only a matter of time until the ever-satirical SNL poked fun at it. After all, the show's known for Alec Baldwin's pretty solid takedown of Donald Trump.
Musk himself once performed an opening monologue on SNL, but just four years later, it seems a lot has changed. The world's richest man is no fan of Myers' impression, with his critics saying he needs to lighten up a bit.

Mocking Musk by wielding a chainsaw on the set of SNL while making jokes about 'President Musk', flipped planes, and the young staff at the Department of Government Efficiency.
It wasn't just Musk who was in the firing line, with Myers later being spotted in a t-shirt that reads: "Canada is not for sale."

Standing alongside host Shane Gillis and musical guest Tate McRae, Myers wore the black tee that also included Canada's red and white flag.

As the credits rolled, Myers can also be seen mouthing "elbows up", which is a term typically used in sports when reminding people to protect themselves.
Elbows up has also been appearing on merchandise, in social media posts, and by Canadian politicians as they clap back against Trump's proposed 25% tariffs on Canadian goods.
Either way, the message is clear that Myers wants Canada and its people to stand up to the POTUS.
Myers' political message comes after Trump levied taxes against Canada and has made several references about making it the 51st state. These fears recently went into overdrive when Google incorrectly made people think Canada was already being absorbed into the USA.

As Myers was born in Toronto, it makes sense that he has strong feelings about the idea that Trump wants to colonize Canada.
Speaking to Fox News in February 2025, Trump called out Canada and said: "I think Canada would be much better off being the 51st state because we lose $200 billion a year with Canada. And I’m not going to let that happen.

"Why are we paying $200 billion a year, essentially a subsidy to Canada?"
Although unclear, the $200 billion Trump mentions is likely referring to defense spending and trade deficit.
Myers got plenty of support for his message against Trump, with Catherine McKenna, former Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Canada, saying: "Mike Myers playing Elon Musk on SNL and then busting out a CANADA IS NOT FOR SALE SHIRT at the end of the show is exactly the energy we need right now. 🤛❤️🇨🇦."
Someone else wrote: "Mike Myers wearing a ‘Canada is not for sale’ T shirt signalling to keep your elbows up during the sign off of SNL last night was one of the most Canadian things I've ever seen. #ElbowsUp."

A third concluded: "There are a lot of famous Canadians living in the United States. I’ve been wondering when they’ll start speaking up in defence of Canada. We know it’s a hard thing to do, but they know it’s the right thing to do. I hope Mike Myers is the beginning of a tidal wave. Be like Mike."
