Musk's time in politics might be reaching an end point sooner than we might have thought, as recent reports reveal the shocking reason why the billionaire is willing to swiftly depart from the Trump administration.
While he no doubt held significant influence due to his position as the richest man in the world, Elon Musk's move into politics in support of Donald Trump has given him an unquestionable level of power.
Prior to President Trump's official return to office he was already asserting his political strength when it came to key bills in congress, and that authority has only grown since taking a role as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

This new role gave him near-unchallenging authority over federal spending in an effort to save America around $2 trillion, and he has used this to tear apart a number of key government agencies - including a couple that were supposedly accidentally disposed of.

While President Trump has since outlined the limits of Musk's power as head of DOGE, shock reports revealed that the Tesla CEO is set to depart from his role by the end of May, due to his status as a 'Special Government Employee' who is only allowed to work for 130 days in a year.
Trump has since confirmed this, although it's unclear whether Musk is departing from his political efforts altogether, yet another reason outside of regulation has been illustrated as to why the billionaire is so willing to step away.

According to anonymous sources reported by The Washington Post, Musk is happy to exit the Trump administration because he's 'tired' of facing what he views as 'nasty and unethical attacks' from the political left.
These 'attacks' appear to come from a wide variety of areas, including within politics, in the form of protests, and perhaps even on national television with the inclusion of Musk impressions on SNL's cold opens, which have been known to rile up Musk on social media.
It also wouldn't be surprising if the backlash against Tesla is also playing a part in this too, as dealerships have been targeted and cars have been vandalized amid the company's tumbling stock market price.

One key analyst has even suggested that Musk and Tesla are currently in a 'Code Red Situation' where the former must leave his government role to save the future of the electric vehicle manufacturer, which has been harmed significantly by Musk's growing negative reputation.
Additionally, it appears as if his influence within government is waning too, particularly when it comes to the infamous '5 things' email that was send out to over 100,000 federal employees in February.
Some areas of government immediately rebuffed claims that employees needed to comply with Musk's request to see accomplishments from the previous week, and others have over time taken it with less seriousness.
It's even got to the point where certain employees are responding to the email requests in foreign languages, almost mocking the apparent severity of the request with apathy towards the directive.

Musk's failure to secure his desired Supreme Court vote in Wisconsin was reportedly also seen as a major blow to his authority within the current administration, even with the allure of $1 million checks, and his popularity with key Trump officials isn't looking good right now.
