There has been an abundance of hype surrounding the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, as the latest console from everyone's favourite gaming company has a lot going for it, but one YouTuber has warned gamers of the 'hidden costs' that you'll need to consider before picking one up.
Nintendo - at least across the last few console generations - has been known as the less powerful but cheaper option between the 'big three' of themselves, PlayStation, and Xbox.
You're always going to get the more powerful system, wider selection, and better looking games on the latest Xbox and PlayStation devices, but whatever Nintendo is putting out will almost likely have both cheaper hardware and less expensive games.

In a time when people are watching their wallets more than ever, having that more budget-friendly alternative is where Nintendo really shines - alongside an already exceptional catalogue of first-party exclusives - but things might be changing for the worse when the Switch 2 rolls around.
Tech expert YouTuber 'Mrwhosetheboss' has previously tackled the downfall of Google search and put different AI models to the test, but his most recent video casts a focus on the Nintendo Switch 2 after he managed to get a hands-on experience.
He praises the compatibility, performance, and games on show alongside the new console, but highlights what he calls a 'hidden cost' that's come to light - the price of the games themselves.

New Nintendo Switch games typically launch for around $60 - around $10 cheaper than the new price of PS5/XSX alternatives - and there are also plenty of cheaper first-party and third-party games on the system too.
However, most of the games revealed for the Switch 2 so far are launching for $80, which is not only a significant $20 price bump compared to the previous generation, but is also more expensive than the industry standard $70.
Many gamers have worried that the upcoming release of GTA 6 would be the one to breach the $70 model, and while leaks suggest that it very much has, it appears as if Nintendo shockingly got there first.
What Mrwhosetheboss suggests is that buying games for your new Nintendo Switch 2 is where the real money sink will happen, and it might turn many people away from experiencing certain titles or picking up the console altogether.

The money you have to pay for every three games you buy would let you get a new game on the original Switch, and Nintendo's reluctance to reduce the price of their first-party titles leaves you little room to find any savings either.
Gamers in the United States also have the looming worry of tariffs affecting the price too, as Nintendo recently delayed pre-orders and suggested that the price could change in response to President Trump's new shocking economic plans.
Experts indicate that the price of the Switch 2 could thus skyrocket in America due to the fact that Nintendo produce the consoles in China, Vietnam, and Cambodia, who are all experiencing severe tariffs at this point in time.

So, you won't just have to fork up an arm and a leg for the console, but the games themselves could bleed you dry, making what was once an economical option far more expensive to pick up and continue to enjoy.
