PlayStation accounts are being permanently suspended for no reason

Safe to say the affected users are not particularly happy.

Some PlayStation users are having a terrible week, after reporting their accounts have been permanently suspended.

PlayStation gamers have been taking to social media to say they've been permanently banned - with no real explanation.

One unhappy gamer posted their ordeal on Twitter, showing a screengrab of the notification, which read: "This account is permanently suspended from PlayStation Network due to violations of the PlayStation Network Terms of Service and User Agreement."

The Twitter user posted what looks to be their chat with PlayStation Support, where they were reportedly told the agent "cannot provide further commentary with regards to this case".

The Twitter user wrote: "No one knows why! I don't have a chargeback, I can't appeal & no response to suspension status."

Redditors have also been sharing similar plights - one wrote: "I just got permanently suspended while playing Ark. There's no reason for it. Sony better fix this. I'm in the US, and was playing on my PS5."

While another added: "We just came home from dinner and my kids got on to play Fortnight…perm banned…kids are freaking out…I’m just happy that we aren’t alone, but this stinks!!! I’m thinking it’s a bug, I just hope it can be resolved."

One solution would be for these people to set up new accounts - but this would mean they would lose all the money they spent on PlayStation digital games, as the slate would be wiped clean.

While unlucky users have been posting about their suspended accounts across Reddit, Twitter and more, it's unclear how widespread the issue is, and if it's linked to something like a bug. Sony hasn't made any public comment on the matter, and there don't seem to be any updates on their support pages - like @AskPlayStation on X.

Sony has been contacted for comment.

It comes a week after a class action lawsuit against Sony was given the go ahead by the UK's Competition Appeal Tribunal, with consumer rights campaigner Alex Neill arguing the Japanese tech giant had a "near monopoly on the sale of digital games and add-on content through its control of the PlayStation Store".

Neill said she is suing Sony on behalf of the 8.9 million UK users of PlayStation.

In the filing, Sony said the case was "flawed from start to finish".
