Simple iPhone tweak that could save you loads of storage space is hidden in your settings

Simple iPhone tweak that could save you loads of storage space is hidden in your settings

It's a real space-saver

If you're looking to free up space on your iPhone, you don’t have to shell out for an iCloud subscription or upgrade to a new model.

There's a quick way to clear up storage on your device and it'll only take a few seconds.

One-time verification codes help to protect your account and keep it secure.

They are filled in automatically, so you don't need to leave the website or app you're signing in to.

But always needing a code when you sign in can take up a lot of device storage.

Thankfully, you can set your iPhone to automatically delete those verification codes, which will help declutter your Messages app.

According to the official Apple website: "One-time verification codes are filled in automatically, so you don’t need to leave the website or app you’re signing in to.

"You can choose to automatically delete the verification codes after entering them with Autofill, or keep them.

To do so, go to Settings > General > Autofill & Passwords. Under Verification Codes, tap Delete After Use, and then switch it on or off.

You might not think to look for this setting since it’s a bit buried in the menus.

People have been expressing their surprise on the internet forum Reddit and impressed by its usefulness.

"Apple REALLY needs to revamp the settings app because why the hell is this in password settings instead of the messages app settings," one user wrote.

"This will be the most useful single feature in iOS 17," added another.

"Finally! I always spend the time to delete these as they annoy me," one more user chimed in.

If you want to manually set up automatic verification codes for a website or app using a setup key, here’s how to do it:

First, sign in to the area of the website or app where you manage your account. Then, select options to enable two-factor authentication and an authenticator app.

Choose the option to manually use a setup key (or a similar term) and copy it.

Go to the Passwords app on your iPhone, tap All and select your account for the website or app.

Tap All, then tap your account for the website or app. Next, tap the Setup Key field, tap Paste and hit OK. And then tap the Verification Code field and copy the verification code.

Return to the website or app and paste the verification code where needed.
