Rumored iPhone Air 17 slammed by Apple fans as 'the product no one asked for'

Looks like you won't be buying in 2025

Rumors of the next iPhone have been swirling, and some Apple fans are not happy.

It's that time of year when the Apple hype train rolls into town, and with the next iPhone typically announced in September, the rumors are swirling about what's on the way. It doesn't take a genius to figure out the iPhone 17 is next on the docket, but more than just the typical base model, Pro, and Pro Max, there are wild whispers that an iPhone 17 Air is on the way.

While we've previously had iPad Air and MacBook Air models, 2025 could mark the arrival of the first iPhone Air.

We've previously seen the slimmer Air products prove a hit among consumers, but when it comes to the iPhone Air 17, it seems a lot of you won't be stumping up the cash to have this lightweight alternative in your hands.

Even though it's not official yet, the iPhone 17 Air has previously been called out amid complaints that Apple is 'copying' Google with the design.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the iPhone 17 Air apparently won't look too different at a glance, boasting a 6.6" OLED display, slim borders akin to the iPhone 16 Pro line, ProMotion, and a typical Dynamic Island interface.

Despite being much thinner, this thankfully won't come at the cost of battery life, which is good news considering all those iOS updates are accused of destroying our battery life. A slimmer phone with the same battery as its beefier brothers might’ve led to cuts elsewhere. According to Gurman, the iPhone 17 Air will match the divisive iPhone 16e with a single 48-megapixel camera. It will also be loaded with the A19 chip instead of the higher-end A19 Pro that's expected with the iPhone 17 Pro version.

There were reportedly plans to make the iPhone 17 Air completely port-free, meaning it would've followed in the footsteps of the Apple Watch's wireless charging. We'll still get our USB-C port for now, but if the iPhone Air 17 is a hit, it's thought port-free iPhones could soon become the norm.

When the specs of the iPhone Air 17 were shared on X, it was clear not all of you would be stumping up the rumored $899 starting price.

Asked if they'll be buying, one disgruntled tech fan wrote: "No. It's the product no one asked for. 'Good battery life' what does that even mean? It's thinner, so it's certainly not a 'better battery life' than we currently get."

Another complained: "Nah, skinny isn't something I'm looking for. Better battery, better chips, more ram, start at 512gb, that's what I really want."

A third remained a little more optimistic but concluded: "The success of the New iPhone 17 Air will be greatly determined by the Battery, No matter how thin the device is.

“The design choice for the new device by Apple is interesting because of the choice to follow the design choice of the Google Pixel. Or is this device destined to fail similar to the Mini and the Plus models."

While some of you are more than ready for a lightweight iPhone when compared to the cumbersome Pro Max models, it's clear the jury is still out on the iPhone 17 Air. Then again, we need to remember Apple hasn't actually announced it yet, so maybe we're best waiting until we get the official nod from the tech giant.
