And the firm’s marketing vice president revealed what the ‘e’ in the name actually means.
According to Greg Joz, the ‘e’ stands for ‘economical’, something that many people on social media have criticized.
Reacting to the news on Reddit, one user wrote: “But this phone doesn’t feel economical with the price point vs the features.”

Another said: “How the f*** did they even come up with that if SE stood for ‘special edition’ while being actually economical. That’s not like Apple at all to make a device and call it ‘economical’ like its Xiaomi.”
A third person joked: “E as in error.”
And a fourth user added: “Fun fact: The ‘e’ in the iPhone 16e stands for ‘expensive’, as stated by Reddit users.”
But that isn’t the only shocking news to come from Apple in the last week.

And a third person commented: “The 14s are a bit soon to discontinue.”
However, not everyone was so critical of the announcement.
In fact, some iPhone users welcomed the change, with one person writing: “About time it went away!”
And another made a good point, adding: “Makes sense. Apple Intelligence is the focus right now. 15 and 15 Plus will probably be dropped later this year.”
