One electric car owner has taken to YouTube to divulge the 'hidden costs' of his electric vehicle which he now describes as 'worthless'.
While electric cars are billed as the future of driving by some, not everyone is sold. President Donald Trump has already tried to undo the Biden administration's pledge to make half of all new vehicles sold in the USA electric by 2030, while he’s also called for an end to tax credits for EVs. Despite all of this, self-appointed 'First Buddy' Elon Musk has claimed that Trump won't be able to stop an evolution into electric vehicles.
When grilled on the future of EVs following Trump’s rollback, Musk explained: "I’m highly confident that all transport will be autonomous electric, including aircraft, and that it’s simply – it can’t be stopped any more than one could have stopped the advent of the external combustion engine, steam engine or one could have stopped the advent of the internal combustion engine."

It's not just the POTUS who remains skeptical about electric vehicles, as UK-based Lee Alexander Davey, aka The MacMaster, has slammed his own electric car.
As pointed out by Supercar Blondie, the YouTuber previously went viral for a 2024 video slating his Porsche Taycan. Back then, The MacMaster tried to take his car back to the dealership and swap it for a Porsche 911. He was told that new models of the Taycan meant there was an excess of stock when it came to his version.
Davey maintains that because the dealership wouldn't buy back his Taycan, it was effectively 'worthless' in less than three years.

In his latest video, The MacMaster says he's still lumbered with his hated EV, but more than that, he goes on to explain the 'hidden costs' associated with it.
Notably, he points out that while charging at home might save you money, charging on public chargers can actually make electric cars more expensive.
He adds that different tires are an unexpected extra cost, with electric cars needing specialist ones to balance the extra weight of the battery. Although The MacMaster says he can get cheaper ones at local dealers, Porsche apparently quoted him £445.47 ($558) each for two new rear tires.
A simple service can reportedly cost as much as $600, while Davey going 'a lot' over his mileage on his leasing deal means he's going to have to pay at least an extra $12,500.

If that wasn't enough to contend with, The MacMaster says Porsche recalled his Taycan and replaced the battery with one less likely to catch fire. The downside of this is that he claims it takes about twice as long to charge - leading to it again being more expensive.
Although unsubstantiated, Davey says he's heard stories of people ordering gas cars from dealerships, only to be told that specific vehicle isn't in stock and being offered an electric vehicle as a knockdown price alternative. He warns his viewers to watch out for this when remembering the 'hidden costs' of an EV, then concludes: "They're going to lie to you, and these motor dealers and motor manufacturers will lie to you because they've been given targets to hit to sell electric cars to you or they get fined for it."
Even if Elon Musk still maintains that electric vehicles are the future, it's clear that The MacMaster is no fan of them.
