People are just realizing that the moon looks different in other countries

Those in the southern hemisphere are seeing it upside down

People are just realizing that the moon looks different in other countries and it's blowing everyone’s minds.

While we might all be looking up at the same moon every night, it turns out that it’s actually pretty different depending on where you are.

The appearance of the moon changes quite extremely when you see it from different parts of the Earth.

So technically, someone in the southern hemisphere like Australia is seeing the moon upside down compared to someone in the northern hemisphere like the UK.

This is down to the fact that people in the northern hemisphere have to look south to see the moon, while people in the southern part of the world will need to look north.

This means that they’re seeing the moon from upside down depending where they are.

People were stunned by this revelation with many taking to social media to share their reactions.

On TikTok, one user said: “Why the **** are we not shown in schools that the way we see the moon in the southern hemisphere is upside down to the way it’s seen in the northern hemisphere and vice versa.

“I moved to a different hemisphere, and I still didn’t realise it until years in.”

Another wrote: “Logically it checks out but emotionally I'm deeply upset and uncomfortable.”

A third person commented: “Sorry WHAT?! How didn’t I know this.”

A fourth wrote: “What? I’m in Australia RN, but I’m French. I’m looking at the moon all the time to remind me she’s watching over my family... And she’s upside down?!”

A fifth said: “I’m 41 and have lived in two different countries, England and New Zealand…and I’m still only just learning this.”

And a sixth user added: “I moved from Brazil to Ireland six years ago and until this very moment I didn’t know that.”

And it isn’t just the moon that has everyone talking.

One TikToker made a similar revelation, adding: “So really we’re kinda looking at the sun upside down too.”

Another wrote: “Yeah, most of the constellations are also upside [down] in the southern hemisphere.”

And a third person pointed out: “Did you also know the water goes down the plughole in a different direction depending on which hemisphere you’re in?”

However, while it might not be noticeable that the sun is upside down when you’re Down Under, there are small ways you might be able to tell with the moon.

The craters may look different depending which hemisphere you’re in because you’re seeing it from a different angle.
