Jennifer Lopez is in her sci-fi era, if the trailer for her new movie is anything to go by.
The first trailer for Netflix film Atlas has dropped and it looks extremely exciting - so mark your calendars for its May 24 release, just in time for Memorial Day weekend.
According to Netflix, Lopez will play a 'a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence', in a story set in humanity's future.
She joins a mission to recover a renegade robot that she knows too much about, but from the looks of that trailer, it's clear that things start going wrong pretty quickly.

The movie will also feature Barbie and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu, and the action-packed segments in the trailer have set people chattering in the YouTube comments.
One big throughline is people's excitement at seeing Jennifer Lopez trying a new direction and playing a different sort of role.
A popular response said: "Finally we get to see a different side of acting from JLo. 2024 is her year. I am so pumped for this movie!" Another very much agreed: "JLo in her action era is EVERYTHING. SEATED."
That's not the only consensus in the comments, though - people have also been pointing out how similar some elements of the trailer look to a popular gaming franchise.

The Titanfall games saw players controlling pilots inside giant mechanical humanoid robots that dropped from orbit onto the battlefield, so the falling sequence at the end of the Atlas trailer feels pretty familiar. The game even had a Titan called Atlas in its roster, although it wasn't as rotund as the one in this trailer.
Cue people observing: "Standby for Titanfall" and: "The things I would do for a Titanfall movie" in the comments, too.
As always with a Netflix original like this one, you don't have to worry about extra charges or a rental fee - if you have a Netflix membership, you'll be able to watch Atlas at no extra cost when it's released in late May.

It's been a busy year so far for Lopez, after her major (and very weird) self-starring biopic came out earlier in 2024. This Is Me...Now: A Love Story is a pretty bombastic affair, too, so it looks like she's had a full calendar of projects recently.
All that remains is to strap in and wait for Atlas to actually come out - although you can safely expect a longer and more detailed trailer to drop sometime between now and then, to give us a closer look at the movie.
