Google responds to 'alarming' error that left Canadians concerned Trump is following through with '51st state' proposal

President Trump has already changed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America

President Donald Trump is back in the White House, and more than just ordering Diet Coke at the press of a button, he's one of the most powerful leaders in the world. With Joe Biden out, the Trump administration has vowed to usher in a 'golden age' of America.

He signed hundreds of executive orders on his first day in office, and over the past few months, he's done everything from put a freeze on foreign aid to offer to buyout millions of government workers, imposing tariffs on the likes of Canada and China to renaming the Gulf of Mexico.

Some of his other plans seem more outlandish, and while it's not happened yet, the POTUS' has alluded to making moves on America's northern neighbor and claiming Canada as the 51st State.

Trump has already spoken about pulling down the 5,525-mile border in an attempt to boost trade.

While many think this would be a legal nightmare, fears have been sparked when Google seemed to rename some provincial parks as 'state' parks.

Mount Robson Park, Whaleboat Island Marine Provincial Park, and Pinecone Burke Provincial Park have all seemingly been labeled as a 'state park' on Google maps, despite the term being considered Americanized.

Speaking to CTV news, concerned resident Rachel Deren explained: "I would like to draw attention to this disgusting display of American oppression of Canadian culture and autonomy.

"This alarming revelation has stirred many who have noticed, as it is an attack on our Canadian identity."

"We are proud to be Canadian and will remain so despite attempts like this from our ever increasingly hostile neighbors to the south."

Over on Reddit, other concerned Canadians have been reporting the errors to Google. Clearing up the whole debacle, Google Maps has confirmed that provincial parks weren't supposed to be branded as state parks.

Speaking to Vancouver Awesome, a Google spokesperson said: "We have not made any recent changes to the way we label parks in Canada – the vast majority of these parks have had their existing labels for several years.

“We're actively working to update labels for parks in Canada to avoid confusion."

The last state to be added was Hawaii in August 1959, but since then, there have been plenty of discussions about the likes of Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico becoming the 51st state. Trump has referred to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as "Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada" ahead of his resignation and suggested that Canada become the 51st state if it was unhappy with Trump's new tariffs.

If (and it's a big if) Canada were to join the USA, its population of nearly 42 million would make it the biggest state, requiring two senators and 55 House seats.

Polls have suggested that both Americans and Canadians are against Canada becoming the 51st state, but it remains to be seen whether Trump genuinely has plans to absorb the Great White North.
