The co-founder of Reddit has recently shared that he's dealing with some health issues as of late.

Alexis Ohanian who co-founded the massively popular internet forum says he has received a diagnosis of Lyme disease. He reported that the news came as quite a surprise to him.

In a series of posts of X, Ohanian, who is married to tennis star Serena Williams, explained his health situation. He stated that his doctors made the diagnosis after he underwent several medical tests.

'Doing a full battery of health scans, tests, etc, and found out I have lyme disease,' said the tech entrepreneur. 'Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat.'

The father of two explained some of the details behind his condition: 'Good cholesterol is too low. Bad cholesterol is just OK. Gotta work on that. On the plus-side: 822 ng/dL total + 162 ng/dL free testosterone.'

Despite having a family history related to Lyme disease, Ohanian mentioned that he was caught off guard by the diagnosis since he doesn’t spend much time in areas typically associated with the condition.

'I've got a loved one who had it a few years back, showed tons symptoms etc and just couldn't figure it out until they tested him for it and then found it (treated it successfully, too),' Ohanian added. 'I spend so little time in the wilderness/northeast this was quite a surprise.'

To combat the disease, Ohanian posted he was 'gonna grab some antibiotics - can't keep me down, tick!' alongside a picture of The Tick cartoon character.

Additionally, the 41-year-old stressed to his 563,700 followers on X that he wasn't offering any kind of medical advice.

'Please talk to a doctor! Do not listen to me for any health advice!' he exclaimed.

476,000 people may be diagnosed and treated for Lyme disease each year in the United States, according to the CDC.

However, this total consists of people who are 'treated based on clinical suspicion but do not actually have Lyme disease.'

Reddit was founded by University of Virginia roommates Steve Huffman, Alexis Ohanian and Aaron Swartz in 2005. Condé Nast Publications, owner of Wired, bought the site from Huffman and Ohanian in October 2006 for $10-20 million.

In October 2023, Reddit became the 18th most-visited website in the world.
