It's the question on every gamer's lips, and while we thought Grand Theft Auto 6 would be the biggest release of the year, it looks destined to be toppled by the long-awaited arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2.
The January 16 announcement trailer reiterated that the Switch 2 is coming in 2025, but aside from confirmation that an April 2 Nintendo Direct is on the way, we're no closer to knowing when the next-gen console will be in our hands.
Even then, there are complaints that there doesn't seem to be much that's new with the Switch 2, leading to grumbles that it might not be as next-gen as we hoped.

Nintendo clearly isn't ready to reveal everything just yet, although it at least looks like we'll be getting a new Mario Kart game when the console eventually races into our lives.
Still, eagle-eyed gamers think a hidden detail could spoil when the Switch 2 will be hitting shelves.
Over on Reddit, u/Junninx noted how the trailer was 2 minutes and 22 seconds (2:22) long, while others noted it related to the exact time until the April 2 Nintendo Direct (2 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days).

This sent the internet into a flurry about what it means, with some speculating it could be a nod to the console's mythical release date.
Writing in the comments, one fan said: "So we can assume that the NS2 will be released 2 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days after 2 Apr 2025, which might be 18 Jun 2025."
Another doubled down on the June idea and said: "2+2+2 = 6, June release date confirmed 🤯."
A third went a little earlier, saying: "If it releases June 6th that's numerically double the Switch 1 release date March 3rd. So you would go from 3/3 to 6/6."

This would just about line up with what insiders think. As reported by GamesRadar, French publisher and accessories manufacturer Nacon is convinced the Switch 2 will release in the first half of the year.
An excerpt from Nacon's third quarter of 2024/25 sales press release states that "business levels in the first half of [fiscal year] 2025/26 will be supported by several positive factors," including "the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 console, for which NACON already has compatible games and a full range of accessories."

Nintendo is giving us hands-on Switch 2 events from April 4 until June 1, so it’s unlikely to be released in this window. Beyond that, the original Switch got an hour-long Tokyo showcase in January 2017, followed by a general release on March 3.
Assuming Nintendo sticks with similar timeframes, two months after the April Direct would put a potential release at the start of June. In a separate article, Kantan Games' Dr. Serkan Toto referred to the hands-on showcases and concluded: "So it very much looks like a spring release is not possible anymore, and June sounds a lot more realistic."
Aside from speculation and people sharing their thoughts on Reddit, we're not expecting to find out about the Switch 2's release date or pricing until the April Nintendo Direct. You've already waited eight years since the Switch released, so a little longer won't hurt you.
