It's a big week for tech, and while TikTok might be destined to fall on January 19, we could soon have something even better to replace our hours of mindless scrolling on the app. The gaming industry is bracing to have its doors blown off, as Nintendo has finally revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 on January 16, 2025.
Since its launch in 2017, the OG Nintendo Switch has shifted millions of units and become one of the best-selling consoles ever.
More than that, this plucky little home and portable hybrid has delivered certified hits for long-running franchises like Pokemon, Zelda, and Mario. All good things must come to an end, and after YEARS of rumors, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa simply confirmed the existence of its next console back in May 2024.

There was another adde caveat that the Switch 2 will play both new games and ones that were previously playable on the Switch.
Speaking on the Kit & Krysta podcast, former Nintendo employees Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang say the gaming giant is 'really mad' about the leaks, adding that it'll be looking into where the information got out from. Yang explained: "This really does have a a very disruptive impact on what the company's trying to do now, which is announce and launch a new console, which is hard enough as it is.
"It's [Nintendo] being disrupted daily, for months, with these leaks, and I'm 100% sure they are like really mad, to the most severe level. We joke around but... they are very, very, very upset by this."

It's not just moles from within that have been leaking the Switch 2, with manufacturers and even case companies all throwing fuel on the fire that an imminent announcement and release soon after are just around the corner.
According to various sources from across social media, this announcement will be followed by a specific software showcase at a later date. This was backed up by Nintendo confirming a new direct on April 2.
A game console isn't much fun without any games to play, and in terms of what's tipped to grace the Switch 2, a long-awaited 3D Mario game and new Mario Kart could be newcomers alongside rumored ports of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Red Dead Redemption 2.
After those ancient whispers of a Switch Pro never turned into anything, the wait for the Switch 2 has been a labor of love. They say patience is a virtue, but after being disappointed so many times before, we won't settle until the Switch 2 is in our hands.
