Just in case you'd forgotten, 2025 is supposed to be the year Grand Theft Auto 6 releases. It's been 12 years since Rockstar Games' last automotive adventure broke records and our social lives, with GTA V becoming the most profitable entertainment product of all time. We've always known GTA 6 would arrive on the scene eventually - emphasis on the eventually part of that sentence.
Publisher Take-Two Interactive has repeatedly confirmed GTA 6 is on the way in 2025, but as the months tick by and there's no so much as a whiff of another trailer, gamers are rightly afraid that the title will be hit with one of those ever-prevalent delays that continue to dog the gaming industry.
The GTA 6 trailer broke the internet when it smashed the record for first-day views on a non-music YouTube video within 12 hours in December 2023. Sadly, that's all we've heard.

To say that GTA 6 has gone quiet since then would be an understatement, and while there's been the typical deluge of leaks and rumors, there's been nothing official.
The reality of the situation really sets in thanks to a Reddit post reminding us it's been over 500 days since the first GTA 6 trailer. This breaks Rockstar's own record, with it being 253 days between our first look at GTA V and our next peek, and 214 days between Red Dead Redemption II's first reveal and second look.
Given that GTA 6 is double that, it's not a great sign.

It's even more frustrating when you remember what Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick said about marketing GTA 6. He explained that there’s been a lack of release date and trailer because Take-Two is simply letting the game market itself, which has caused plenty of frustration among fans. We know that GTA 6 was always going to sell well, and with reports that it's expected to make $1 billion in pre-orders alone, it will likely eclipse its predecessor.
Responding to the Reddit post reminding us it's been over 500 days since we were gifted the first trailer, one disgruntled gamer wrote: "As a company, they did it perfectly. One trailer has created free advertising for over 500 days. As a fan. I hate it 🤣."
Putting a tragic twist on it, another added: "My brother died before this goddamn game released and he was so excited for it. Never got to see a second trailer, even."

When someone accused Rockstar of releasing the trailer 'too early', someone else said: "Agreed. Gaming companies have been doing that since the PS5/Series X generation began.
Wolverine(Insomniac) is probably the second biggest example besides GTA 6."
Seeing the delay as something of a positive, a fourth concluded: "That's pretty interesting because that means the final release will probably look exponentially better.
Rockstar always makes their trailers based on what current build they have at their respective times which is why they look incrementally better leading to release."

It's not hard to see why fans are losing their patience with Rockstar, and while it's not helped by those rumors that the game will cost at least $100, let's not pretend we won't be buying GTA 6 on the first day and sinking all of our lives into it.
