Full list of iPhones rumored to lose support With iOS 19

Check to see if your device can take the latest updates

With iOS 19 on the horizon, many are wondering which devices in Apple's iPhone line up will make the cut when it comes to support for the new updates, and there's likely to be some that are simply too old to make it this time around.

While most people do opt to upgrade their smartphones every couple of years, many of Apple's iPhones are actually capable of lasting upwards of half a decade, receiving continual update support despite their age.

This, alongside a replacement battery, are one of the best things that Apple's provides to extend the lifespan of your gadgets, and combining these hardware enhancements with some key tips will help you free up more storage and have your phone last for longer.

The impending arrival of iOS 19 might signal that it's time for you to bite the bullet and upgrade, as you could be missing out on key security fixes, and we can work out whether you'll be affected through the rumored list of supported devices below, as reported by the Mac Observer:

  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone XS (+ Max)
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone SE 2nd & 3rd Generation

From this, we can assume that anything released before the iPhone X lineup in September 2018 is likely not to gain support for iOS 19, which includes the iPhone 8 and older.

Anyone still managing to hang on to their old iPhone 8 as a daily driver will likely appreciate the significant enhancements that have been made since then too, as that model in particular was the last to feature the classic home button design which also rumored to be ditched in the next generation of the SE.

If you do decide to still stick with your old device though you'll not just be missing out on the next round of vital security updates, as enhancements to Apple Intelligence are also expected to play a key role when it drops.

You'll find these enhancements throughout your entire device, but most prominently in the overhaul of Siri which has made even CEO Tim Cook use it every single day.

One thing to note is that there's a chance that, despite qualifying for iOS 19, some of the older devices on the list above won't have the full suite of features that the update is likely to offer.

This is due to the processing power required for a lot of the AI features in Apple Intelligence, which some of the older devices simply aren't capable of matching.
