Tesla owner shares car’s first electric bill after 12 months and people can’t believe the price

People are wondering how it's possible

A Tesla owner shared their car’s first electric bill after 12 months and the price is shocking.

If there's one key thing that might make people make the shift from gas cars to electric vehicles (EVs) - if not the environmental bragging rights - it could be the cost savings.

When it comes to EVs, Elon Musk's Tesla is the most recognised brand on the market, developing the iconic Model Y, Model 3 and of course, the Cybertruck.

Whether you love them or hate them, you can't deny this one owner's way to keep the running costs low.

X user @Tesla_GTownTX shared a screenshot of what they say is the 'first time' they've had to actually pay a bill to charge their Tesla in a whole year.

They captioned their post: "First time I’ve had a bill within the last 12 months. This sucks."

And yes, the screenshot has not fooled you as you can see the total bill of just $2.37 (£1.89) in costs.

That’s a far cry from the hundreds of dollars you might expect to spend regularly charging an EV every month.

If you're wondering how they pulled it off, you just need to look at their Twitter profile as to how they might have managed to get their EV vehicle bill so low.

Their cover photo shows a Tesla Powerwall which is a massive battery you can buy and loop into your home's power to store charge.

It's most useful when it's paired with solar panels as it can create a potentially self-sufficient power loop.

So, whilst your solar panels collect energy to power your home, they can also store excess charge in your Powerwall.

You can then use this charge to keep your car topped up when you plug it in. How cool is that?

While the upfront costs for solar panels, a Powerwall, and the Tesla itself can be high, you can be sure to reap the rewards in the long run.

There are also some things to consider as well like environmental factors (obviously) in that this self-sufficient setup would of course work best in sunny locations.

Tesla_GTownTX seems to be located in the Texas area, which would normally get loads of sunshine to bank plenty of power, but the seasonal cold snaps probably slowed it to a trickle.

Other X users have gathered in the comments section of X to poke humour.

"That's horrible. My condolences," one user replied.

"Damn my dude post a GoFund Me the community will rally around you I’m sure," one joked and the original poster actually replied saying: "Thank you for the advise...this has been a hard pill to swallow. I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight."
