The public can now take a look inside Tesla’ latest innovation, the self-driving Cybercab, which has no steering wheel or rear window.
Tesla’s chief designer, Franz von Holzhausen, has given people a sneak peek of the vehicle ahead of its estimated release in 2026.
The Tesla might seem like a normal looking car at first but a closer look reveals that it has no rear window, pedals or steering wheel and it is a fully autonomous drive.
In a video posted to the Petersen Automotive Museum YouTube channel, Franz explained: “It’s a really exciting vehicle for us, this is something that is going to radically change transportation as we know it.

“The Cybercab is a fully autonomous vehicle, you can own the car, you can purchase the car, you can lease the car for the amount of time that you want.
“It’s a different type of ownership experience than maybe we’re 100% familiar with but I think it’s
going to really revolutionize the way that we move ourselves around.”
Explaining the lack of rear window, Franz continued: “There's obviously no rear window and in an autonomous car when you’re really focused on getting from A to B, you’re not doing the driving so it doesn't matter so much about what’s behind you but it allows us to actually have incredibly big storage in a small car.”

In fact, the storage space is so big that the car only actually seats two people at the front with no extra seating in the back.
He added: “We chose the color gold and it’s really a special color, it really reflects kind of a future version of the idea of a New York City Yellow Cab and it’s a future idea of that where we’ve taken that iconic yellow and created something more expressive and more up to date.”
In the middle of the two passengers is a large screen, where you can do things like watch a movie or video chat.

One user wrote: “I think it is world shaking for the elderly who cannot, or should not, drive anymore. They will be able to get around by themselves.”
Another said: “Great to see the lead designer explaining and promoting the design and the intent behind some of the many choices and decisions.”
And a third person added: “As someone who is severely visually impaired this is a dream come true !! I can't wait.”
