There's nothing worse than when you need to be somewhere and your car is all iced up.
At least most drivers can use de-icer to unfreeze the ice on traditional car doors pretty easily. However, Tesla owners face a unique challenge due to the design of the electric vehicle's flat door handles.
Tesla's door handle design was made to be pushed in from the opposite end to help break any ice covering it, leading to some frustrations among the Tesla owner community.

In a viral video on X, a Tesla owner shared his winter hack to keep the ice from building up the electric vehicle's door handles.
The video, originally posted by Joey Brixey on Facebook, suggests using tape to cover the door handles, creating a barrier that prevents ice buildup.
The simple trick supposedly uses painter's tape as the preferred choice in that it doesn't leave a mark on the vehicle.

People are praising the hack responding with: 'Nice trick' and 'I love it!'.
Some drivers are advising others to use the Tesla app to pre-warm the vehicle from the inside out, as getting inside the vehicle with the trick in the video is only '10% of the battle.'
Once a suitable temperature has been reached, the doors can simply be automatically opened via the app by clicking on the 'Unlatch Door' option.
Meanwhile, other viewers are criticising the Tesla design for not being well-suited to extreme cold weather conditions - suggesting that parking in a garage seems to be the best course of action.

And some users are even going as far as to say that the video creator should move to a 'less cold' place.
Despite the range of opinions, a handy manual trick is always good to have in your back pocket.
In response to extreme freezing conditions, the Tesla owner manual states: 'Ice buildup can make it more difficult to open door handles. You can use the mobile app to pop open the driver door in this situation.'

Tesla added: 'In the mobile app, touch and hold any of the four quick control buttons and follow the instructions to customise quick controls with Unlatch Door.
'When you are next to your car, touch Unlatch Door to pop open the driver door.'
It's possible we might see more issues arise when the tech company rolls out more of its Cybertruck range, which doesn't include any door handles whatsoever!
