You could lose access to Netflix in a matter of weeks if you own one of these TVs

You might be at risk of losing the streaming service, even if you pay for a subscription.

It's bad luck for some Netflix viewers, as the streaming service plans to switch off for good on certain TV models in the next few weeks.

The streaming service has arguably one of the biggest catalog of films and shows against its competitors, but now access could be lost forever.

The platform intends to shut down on over a dozen TV models before the end of July, which means you won't be able to watch even if you have a subscription.

The halt on certain TVs will affect owners of Sony models, specifically ones made around 10 years ago.

In a statement, Sony told gutted customers: "Starting July 24, 2024, the Netflix app will no longer be supported on some 2014 BRAVIA televisions (Affected Models).

"You can continue to use the Netflix app until July 23, 2024."

This isn't the first time Netflix has cut their service from Sony TVs, last year they announced that multiple models from 2012 and 2013 would lose access in February this year.

Unhappy viewers took to Reddit to air their grievances about the announcement, with one commenter posting: "Would have been nice if Netflix mentioned these limitations before accepting my subscription."

Another added: "My TV is new enough that it has a Netflix button on the remote. If it’s not fixed, Friday will be my last day with s***flix."

All hope is not lost though. Before you start considering upgrading your TV to a newer model, there is an alternative option if you're one of the people on the chopping block.

Sony has told their customers that Netflix can still be viewed on their TVs using a supported streaming device, meaning you'll need an additional gadget like an Amazon Fire TV Stick, a Google Chromecast or a Roku TV Stick to watch your favourite shows on the service.

These devices give you a different set of apps and services and enable you to view platforms no longer supported by your TV.

Netflix has also been cracking down on VPN (virtual private networks) use in recent months as subscribers were using the networks to bypass high subscription fees.

The streaming service announced another increase in prices late last year, with fees for the Basic and Premium plans rising to $11.99 and $22.99 per month.

So, if you've got one of the TVs affected by the most recent change, grab yourself a streaming stick to keep watching your favorite flicks.
