An iconic 2022 psychological thriller has finally landed on Netflix.
There's nothing better than a good scare for horror fans. A movie to make you throw your popcorn up in the air at the jump scares and cover your eyes while watching.
One film that hits the mark for fans of this genre is Pearl, and it's just arrived on Netflix.

From the iconic A24, Pearl is described as an "X-traordinary origin story'. Blending classic horror imagery with intense characters and dazzling colours that are reminiscent of a Wes Anderson movie, this film has it all. Even the trailer alone is haunting.
Pearl is the pre-quel to the slasher film 'X' in which a group of young filmmakers set out to make an x-rated adult film when their elderly hosts catch them, ending in a bloodbath.
Both X and Pearl were created and directed by Ti West and released in the same year, with West saying in an interview with Jake's Takes on YouTube that he always looked at X and Pearl as 'one big movie'.

Pearl focuses throws it back to the 1910s, focusing on a young woman who would turn out to be one of the elderly hosts featured in X.
Set during the era of World War I, we follow the title character living on an isolated Texas farm with an overbearing mother and a father in declining health.
We see Pearl's big ambitions to escape the country to become a Hollywood movie star become increasingly thwarted by her increasingly violet psyche and well, you'll have to watch the movie for the rest.
Receiving a whopping 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, this film went down incredibly well with critics as well as the general audience.

Mia Goth's performance as Pearl is particularly hailed, with one critic writing: "Aesthetics aside, a movie like Pearl lives and dies off the lead performance, and Mia Goth delivers a show-stopping performance here."
Some have also said this movie isn't just for die-hard horror fans either: "For someone that loves classic films, there was a lot to admire here. With the lush colors, nods to cinematic history and eccentric characters, this is a film that non-horror audiences would find appreciation for."
West released the third and final contribution to the X series earlier this year entitled 'Maxxxine', also starring Mia Goth.

Addressing many similar themes to it's predecessors, Maxxxine follows 1980s adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx as she finally gets her big break just as a killer begins stalking Hollywood's starlets.
Pearl is available to stream on Netflix now.
