Anyone who has ever had the thought of yanking the key out of the ignition mid-drive will love this video, as one YouTuber is willing to risk it all for our entertainment.
YouTube is a fantastic place to find answers - especially to questions you wouldn't dare try yourself - and one particular channel has tried just about every ridiculous car-related experiment you could possible image.
From filling the tank up with vodka to forcing a manual into reverse while at 50mpg, AutoVlog has an unquenchable desire to push his numerous vehicles to the limit in the name of science, and fun too.

His next experiment might just be one of the most intriguing yet though, as he shows what exactly happens if you pull the key out of the ignition while you're driving.
"Now most people wouldn't have even thought of this," he explains, referring to his current experiment, "because why would you take the key out while you're driving, but this is all for fun so let's find out." And find out we shall!
A 1994 Ford Ranger was the car of choice for this video, and being rather old fashioned for its time - let alone 30 years later, it turns out to be the perfect test subject for this video.

Not only was AutoVlog able to rip the key out of the ignition while driving without anything happening, he also quickly realized that he was able to stop and start the car without the use of the key at all.
This is due to the nature of the ignition that somehow allows you to simply just turn it with your hands to start, and the key is simply just a cog to make it easier. Theoretically someone could just hop into the truck and start it without the key to drive away, which he found to be rather worrying.
Thankfully this isn't the case for newer vehicles though, as he tried the same experiment with his 2015 Ford F150.

Ford appear to have worked out their issues in the 21 years following the 94 Ranger, as you're completely unable to take out the key while driving in the F150 - although you can still turn the engine off if you wanted to.
It goes to show that cars are far more technologically advanced nowadays, with many safeguarding features that not only stop you from doing something stupid (deliberately or otherwise) but also prevent your vehicle from being easily stolen.
Of course, the comments have managed to find a lot of fun in the situation too, with one user joking that "the only anti-theft feature is the manual trans."
Another points out that "this man's really answering all the thoughts that I had as a kid," and it's hard to deny how fascinating it is when someone is willing to risk doing the things we all knew we definitely shouldn't be doing but couldn't resist thinking about.
