Meeting someone for the first time isn't always the smoothest experience, and this phenomenon even affects industry titans like Elon Musk and MrBeast.
Despite being giants in their respective fields, it was only until Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024 that Tesla head Elon Musk and most subscribed to YouTuber Jimmy "MrBeast" Donaldson met.
Understandably both are incredibly busy with their respective businesses, especially in the case of Musk who has taken on a number of new governmental roles alongside his multiple companies, but you'd expect the pair to have crossed paths at some point in the past.

MrBeast has been a keen supporter of Musk in the past, having posted his own videos to X (formerly Twitter) in the past as an experiment. Donaldson also expressed his admiration for Musk in a 2020 post, revealing: "Ever since I started learning about your work ethic and passion I've been more motivated than ever to make a difference. I look up to you."
Musk has also previously contributed to MrBeast's TeamTrees project, becoming the highest donator at one point, but they still had never met face to face.
You'd think then that the pair would have much to talk about upon their first encounter, discussing admiration, fame, and the current state of the world, but unfortunately things got off to a bit of an awkward start.

MrBeast revealed in an interview with fellow YouTuber Theo Von that during his first encounter with Musk at this year's Super Bowl, the question that the richest man in the world opened with was as follows:
"I think he asked me, 'Do I think people call X 'Twitter' still, or do people call it X?'"
Turns out that even billionaires can still feel a little self-conscious about their own decision-making, as Musk remains concerned about the social media platform's new name over seven months following the change.

And he's right to be concerned, it's never really stuck, with many still having to clarify that they're talking about Twitter when mentioning the rather unspecific 'X' in conversation.
Thankfully MrBeast was honest with Musk about his opinion, replying to the awkward question with: "I was like uh, 'most people call it Twitter that I've noticed.'" Sometimes the truth hurts.
Even X's own users still aren't convinced by the name change, with one user replying in response to the pair's conversation: "I don't think I've seen a REAL person call it X," whereas another argues that they call it "Twitter mostly," but "Tweets 100%."
With many making the jump over to rival Bluesky it's hard to see a future where the Twitter name is fully abandoned, but you certainly can't blame Elon for his concern.
