Elon Musk unfollows big tech YouTuber following Cybertruck snub

Elon Musk unfollows big tech YouTuber following Cybertruck snub

Musk has been branded a 'baby' by some for his social media antics

Elon Musk doesn't appear to be too happy with one particular tech YouTuber, as he's unfollowed them on X after they announced the sale of their Cybertruck.

To say that Tesla's Cybertruck release hasn't been the smoothest is a bit of an understatement, as reports of 'terrifying' features throughout the vehicle have been paired with reviewers who were more than willing to take the loss and sell it on shortly after it arrived.

Conversely though, the Cybertruck has also been on the receiving end of a lot of praise from EV fans and tech enthusiasts alike, with YouTube superstar Marques Brownlee (otherwise known as MKBHD) proving to be one of the car's most vocal fans.

His first video driving the car is one of his most popular, accumulating over 21,000,000 views in a year, and his official review following a month and 2,000 miles of use saw him brand the Cybertruck 'already iconic'.

Brownlee appears to have had a change of heart in recent weeks though, as he announced on his Instagram story in late December that he'd parted with his Cybertruck, posting a close-up photo of the car with the caption 'Sold (peace sign emoji)'.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk seems to not have taken well to this news, as he has now unfollowed MKBHD on X in what many are seeing as a direct reaction to Brownlee's sale.

One user on X posted screenshots of Brownlee's story and the announcement of Musk's unfollowing with the caption: "He's such a baby," and many appear to agree.

"Not a fan of MKBHD but that's valid," said one user, whereas another added that Musk is "so fragile."

The whole situation is perhaps not quite as dramatic as it initially seems though, as Brownlee has revealed that it's simple a case of preferences.

In response to one user's query over why he'd sell his Cybertruck, Brownlee revealed: "TL;DR I like the Rivian better."

If you're unaware, Rivian are an electric car company that are dedicated to making 'adventure' vehicles, and Marques has reviewed or featured a number of their products including the R1S, R1T, and R2/R3.

You only need so many cars after all - especially within the niche subsection of electronic trucks - so this is likely just a case of Brownlee picking his favorites.

He has even pushed back at claims that he was a 'late convert' to the Cybertruck, arguing: "You may recall I was one of the earliest to review the Cybertruck, called it iconic and took a lot of heat for not being harsh enough on it."

While he hasn't revealed how much he got for the departing Cybertruck, some have speculated that Brownlee has had to stomach a loss of around $50,000.

Torque News predicts that MKBHD forked up just under $140,000 for his Foundation Series Cybertruck Cyberbeast and all the additional modifications and fees, and the assumption is that he would get around $90,000 for it on the current market.

Of course, we have no way of telling whether his particular car went for that low of a price, but it's not hard to imagine that the YouTube giant would have had to take some kind of loss on the 'iconic' vehicle.
