Instagram down with thousands of users unable to use key feature

What will we do now?

Uh oh, it might feel like the world is ending because it looks like Instagram is down - well, an important part of it.

The social media platform is the best way to show off our boujee breakfasts and adorable pet pics, but for some content creators, it's a source of money that they need for their everyday life.

Still, Instagram is facing a few issues, with thousands unable to use one of its biggest features.

There has been a reported spike in issues on October 29, with it starting in the early hours and getting worse. Downdetector is used to monitor "when services go down or have outages," and if you look at instagram right now, there are nearly 2,500 reports that the Meta-owned social media platform isn't working as it's supposed to.

It's not just isolated to one region, with issues being logged globally that Instagram is struggling.

Feeds, likes, and most notifications are working as usual, however, it's apparently an issue with DMs.

A quick scan of X shows that most are unable to send or receive DMs. One user questioned: "Is anyone else having issues with Instagram chats, or is it just me? Messages aren't delivering and show 'failed to deliver' after a few minutes. Anyone else experiencing this?"

Someone else joked: "Good looking people can breathe a bit as Instagram DM's are down and they don't need to reply anyone. #instagramdown"

Another angry Intagrammer said: "Instagram is down!! If I ignored your DM no I didn't!!" Yeah, we've all heard that before.

There were plenty of jokes about logging back in to Twitter (with most refusing to call it X) just to see if Instagram is down. Suddenly, we feel like we're back in 2021.

We imagine the Meta HQ is currently like the meme of the dog saying, "This is fine," while surrounded by fire, but typically, these things tend to be fixed pretty quickly. It's not like the whole app is down, and with the ability to still scroll through your friend's feed and like their photos, it just means your private DMs laughing at those same photos with someone else will have to wait a while.

Meta hasn't given us any indication when Instagram will be back to full power and our DMs will be restored, so bad luck for anyone trying to slide into your DMs. We guess they'll have to try the old-fashioned way like sending a text or a carrier pigeon.

For now, it's back to refreshing X on the hopes of finding out when Instagram will be back to normal.
