NASA is holding its first ever Twitch livestream very soon, and space nerds will not want to miss it.
Hoping to prove that it's down with the kids, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration is looking to find a new generation of interest by offering its first-ever Twitch live stream. The world has changed a lot since NASA was founded in 1958, succeeding the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), and while Artemis III plans to get us back on the Moon in 2027 for the first time since Apollo 17 did it in 1972, NASA has kept itself busy over the decades.
While you might associate Twitch with watching Amouranth grabbing 40 winks, Kai Cenat marathons, or Asmongold being put in his place by Elon Musk, everything from Kellogg's to HelloFresh, Pepsi to KFC has found a home on Twitch.

Instead of partnering with streamers to offer someone like HasanAbi a trip to the International Space Station, NASA is giving us tiny dots on Earth unprecedented access to the orbiting laboratory before Musk destroys it.
The International Space Station has been in the news a lot recently due to stranded astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore, but now, NASA is letting you get up close and personal with those aboard the ISS.
From the comfort of your own armchair or streaming setup, you can enjoy an out of this world event that will taking place some 250 miles away rom Earth on Wednesday, February 12.

Streamed live from Twitch at 8:45AM PT | 11:45AM EST, the February 12 steam lets viewers interact with the ISS crew.
The live stream will include a talk with NASA astronaut Don Pettit aboard the ISS, as well as astronaut Matt Dominick, who is currently back on Earth having completed the Crew-8 mission.
Discussing what life is like on the ISS, Pettit and Dominick will explain what goes into astronaut research while in microgravity. It's hopes that Twitch will help users engage with "NASA, including citizen science projects and science, technology, engineering, and math programs designed to inspire the Artemis Generation."
Hyping the stream, NASA’s Director of the Office of Communications, Digital and Technology Division, Brittany Brown, said: "This Twitch event from space is the first of many. We spoke with digital creators at TwitchCon about their desire for streams designed with their communities in mind, and we listened."

Saying that future streams will involve launches, spacewalks, and landings, Brown says this is the first of many Twitch-exclusive streams. She went on to say: "Twitch is one of the many digital platforms we use to reach new audiences and get them excited about all things space."
Even though this is the first Twitch stream from NASA, live streams from space aren't that unusual.

Alongside the Sen's Space TV-1 streaming for up to 20 hours a day, the agency debuted the NASA+ streaming platform in 2024.
It feels like we're edging closer to a strange reality where Kai Cenat is the first streamer in space. In November 2024, Cenat posted on X and reached out to Elon Musk to help make his dream a reality when he wrote: "Hey Elon, I would like to be the first streamer to stream & say "YO CHAT" from space. I believe you are the only person that can help me achieve this goal, let's make history @elonmusk @SpaceX."
