Elon Musk claims it'll soon be possible to fly from London to New York in under 30 minutes at mind-blowing speeds

The tech billionaire believes that SpaceX could replace planes

Elon Musk likes to share an abundance of ideas, but this could be his most ambitious - and most useful - yet.

The tech billionaire is just about everywhere these days, having boosted his net worth by over $26 billion, started the Department of Government Efficiency, and even had time to spare for spats on X with Anonymous, SNL, and Jimmy Kimmel.

That still clearly isn't enough for Elon Musk though, as the owner of Tesla and SpaceX has set a new target that could revolutionize your travel habits if successful.

There are few things more excruciating than a long haul flight, as the hours you'll spend sat in an uncomfortable seat can feel like the longest of your life.

Musk, with the help of SpaceX rocket Starship, is looking to change that though, as he has unveiled plans for high-speed flights that could decrease flight times by up to 2,200%.

Front and center of these plans is a New York to Shanghai flight that reportedly only takes a measly 39 minutes, which is quite the improvement from the current travel time of around 14 hours and 50 minutes.

This is possible due to the Starlight's max speed of 27,000 km/h, which makes the journey a breeze in theory - although we can't imagine the g-force to be that pleasant!

Other advertised flight times include a 29 minute flight from London to New York, Paris to New York in just half an hour, and even Delhi to San Francisco in just 40 minutes.

While it seems quite the distant dream right now, it appears to be more of a reality after Donald Trump's victory in the US election, and his subsequent control over the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

In a reply to a mockup video of the flight program from X user @ajtourville, Musk stated: "This is now possible."

Many social media users are relishing the possibility of this happening in the replies too, with one arguing that achieving this affordably "would change people's ability to collaborate and build together."

They continued on to note that they would be able to "get a lot done in a weekend with that kind of connectivity," and it's certainly hard to argue with that from a practical side of things.

It would certainly be quite convenient to jump on the next plane and be on the other side of the world in under an hour, but like many of Musk's wild plans you do wonder whether it will actually come to fruition.

"Scariest ride ever!" one commenter remarks, "But I'd sign up for it."

If you didn't like flying already, I doubt this'll bring you on board.
