The building celebrates Singapore's natural environment

The world’s ‘best skyscraper’ that appears to be half jungle and half hotel costs less than you would think to spend the night there.

With plants climbing around the columns of the building and hanging like canopies from the ledges, the unusual tower block is a work of art.

Facilities include a lagoon-like pool, terraces, and more than 100 different species of plants for guests to enjoy.

Located in Singapore, the Pan Pacific Orchard recently won the title of the world’s best new tall building by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

The CTBUH said that the hotel had taken an innovative approach to blending nature with urban architecture, covering its 23 storey building in tropical plants.

The hotel, which has over 340 rooms on offer, first opened its doors in June 2023 and in the short time that it’s been operating, it has won three other awards.tf

This includes winning the best tall building between 328 ft and 652 ft tall.

The hotel itself is split into L-shaped sections in four different layers, which helps to leave plenty of room for the greenery on display.

Each of these sections is home to a terrace which has its own theme to reflect Singapore’s tropical climate.

These themes are arranged in ascending order and are as follows: forest, beach, garden and cloud.

The forest terrace includes a lobby filled with trees as well as a waterfall and a pond, while the beach terrace has different pools along with, of course, a sandy beachfront.

In the garden terrace you can marvel as a beautifully landscaped garden, and the cloud terrace offers up panoramic views and a pillarless ballroom.

In a statement, the CTBUH’s chief executive, Javier Quintana de Una, said that the hotel ‘represents the best of responsible vertical urbanism today’.

The statement went on to say: “By holistically incorporating greenery into its design, Pan Pacific Orchard honors Singapore’s heritage while pushing the envelope of sustainable urban development in a dense, urban setting.”

As it’s such an innovation of city architecture, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it must cost a fortune to book a room at the Pan Pacific Orchard.

However, it’s not as pricey as you’d think - one night there would cost around $250.

The building was designed by Singapore based Woha Architects, who wanted to combine all of the country’s natural environments into one structure.
