While it might sound like something out of a futuristic sci-fi film, one woman is taking contactless to a whole new level by paying for groceries using a chip implanted into her hand.
Many of us are happy with being able to pay on our phones instead of fishing around our bags for a bank card, but TikToker Burgundy Waller reckons she has the future of payment, quite literally, in the palm of her hand.
The woman has been nicknamed ‘Chip Girl’ after she claimed to have one implanted under the skin of her hand back in 2020.

People couldn’t believe their eyes when she showcased her hack for unlocking her house by putting her hand to the door handle.
But in a new video, she’s taken it one step further and can now use the chip to pay for groceries at the store.
The video was removed from her account but resurfaced on X, formerly Twitter, and now it’s sparked a debate about implanted chips.

It shows Waller paying at a cash register by holding her hand above the card machine.
Talking to the camera, she says: “I’m at Whole Foods and I’m about to pay for my groceries with my hand
Asking the cashier if the payment had gone through, they confirm it had and Waller looks shocked, ending the video with: “That’s the coolest thing ever.”

But not everyone agreed with her and, after seeing the clip, some were horrified, with one user replying: “Very disturbing.”
Another added: “End times confirmed.”
And a third posted: “Yikes! I don’t think she knows what she’s getting into.”
Some people have speculated on how truthful Waller is about her implanted chip and there have been some theories shared on X about how it could be a trick.

One user suggested: “Apple Watch hidden under the sleeve?”
Another posted: “It’s not a chip in her hand; it’s a palm scanner. I asked if anyone was using them at WF locally, and they said only a couple of people a day. It’s creepy.”
Despite the naysayers, Waller insists that her chip is genuine and continues to document her life with the implant to her 4.9 million followers on her TikTok page (@chipgirlhere).
If the chip is genuine then this could be a glimpse into the future of contactless payment, but if a surgical procedure seems too drastic then it might be best to stick with Apple Pay for now.
