Spotify Wrapped is one of the highlights of any music lover's year, but the 2024 edition has left many feeling frustrated and deflated as key features are nowhere to be seen.
There are few better social media posts than your annual Spotify Wrapped breakdown, as you get to show off your listening habits and compare them with your friends and followers.
The event has been celebrated with special playlists, curated personalities, and special charts based on your music adorations, but much seems to have been missing from this year's edition.

Spotify have previously issued warnings to its users asking them to update the app, and the cut off date is perhaps a little earlier than you might think, but many have claimed that the whole thing has been rushed.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) has proclaimed in frustration: "Ok um @ Spotify this is a disgrace, why have you not given us our top 100 songs playlist. Where is our top genres. Why do I find out my January was pumpkin spice indie and not that my top genre was indie rock? Worst wrapped EVER #spotifyisover"

As you can see from this the main issues that users have is the lack of dedicated listening-themed playlists and the removal of a top genres chart that lets you know where your listening habits are typically found.
Another X user has pointed out that there are "no quirky interactive bits or silly personality assessments" either, and that "Spotify Wrapped was NOT worth the hype this year."
The general impression then is that Wrapped is very much pared back this year, which is odd considering many previous editions have been much more feature-rich comparatively.
"It's almost as if they were running late to finish it so they just served it uncooked," says @thomashelby_obe on X, adding that the behavior from Spotify this year is "embarrassing!"

It does appear that a top songs playlist has now been added to Spotify Wrapped, with some users even pointing out that you need to search for it within the app instead of automatically appearing, but there has been no update on the front of genre charts or the 'quirks' and 'silly bits'.
While for some Wrapped is simply just a means of seeing how much you listened to your favorite artists over the past year, for many it's very much a social activity and these otherwise minor aspects do help users feel more connected to the music they listen to.

There is, however, what some are calling a 'weird AI podcast' that Wrapped has created, if you ever wanted to listen to your year in music instead of tapping through it, if that floats your boat.
