How to see when the Google Street View car is coming to a street near you

The iconic vehicle might be nearer than you think

Google Street View allows you to view the world under a microscope from the comfort of your home, and there's somewhat of a trick you can use to find out if your house is close to having its picture snapped by the car soon.

Ever since it launched in 2007 Google Street View has been an incredibly popular and valuable tool for many across the globe.

Whether it's planning a route across a busy city, scouting out a location for your next project, or simply having a nosey on your old home or neighborhood, being able to see the world from street level is truly fascinating. It's even got to the point where mysteries have been solved using the tech, showing it's importance on a grander scale.

At the heart of it all is the Google Street View car, which is an otherwise assuming vehicle outside of the 360 degree camera strapped on top of the roof.

This captures a fully rotational image of the cars surroundings as it drives around, and if you happen to be in its view then it's likely that you'll make it to the latest version - talk about fame!

As reported by SupercarBlondie, there's no concrete way to tell when the Street View car will be visiting your street as Google don't make that information public, but there is a way that you can 'game the system' in a way in order to get a healthy prediction.

Checking to see where the images were most recently updated gives you a good idea of where the car is at the current point in time, and if it happens to be close to your area then there's a good chance that you'll be snapped again soon.

Google's own website gives this information in their 'Where we are mapping this month' section, allowing you to see the countries, states, and districts that are on the car's route.

For example, selecting United States and Illinois will show you all of the countless districts that the car is travelling to in 2025, it's then just up to you to be prepared for when the time comes.

Of course, not every location will receive regular updates, with many houses having no new photos for over a decade - if at all - and it all depends on where you live and how often Google makes its way to your area.

If you do manage to get captured by the Street View car then hopefully it'll be on a sunny day when your property is looking its best, as there's nothing worse than waiting all that time for a picture only for everything to look drab and lifeless.
