Elon Musk trolls Microsoft as global IT outage causes chaos in airports and hospitals

Billionaire Elon Musk has poked fun at the Microsoft IT outage as chaos continues around the world

Elon Musk has aimed a dig at Microsoft as the IT outage continues to cause chaos around the globe.

The problem has caused flights around the world to be grounded, as well causing computers to stop working, trains to be delayed and further disruptions in hospitals.

As of today, much of the world’s infrastructure is still not working and the widespread outage has affected many of the world’s biggest companies with issues being reported in many countries including the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and India.

While there were initial concerns that this could be a cyber attack from either hostile states or criminals, it looks like the cause of the issue originates from a faulty update to one of global cybersecurity company CrowdStrike‘s products.

The update has since been rolled back but this hasn’t helped the computers already affected and experts are working round the clock to find a solution.

Billionaire Elon Musk has used the opportunity to take a swipe at Microsoft as they deal with the outage.

On his social media site X, formerly Twitter, he reshared a post he’d made back in October 2021 that read: “Macrohard >> Microsoft”.

The cheeky dig caused quite a stir online, with it currently sitting at 17.8 million views and 59,000 likes.

People took to the comment section to share their thoughts, with one user writing: “When you making an OS?”

Another said: “Please build something better!”

A third added: “Gearing up for the cyber pandemic.”

Work is still underway to fix the IT outage that is affecting people around the globe.

A statement from Microsoft read: “We're aware of an issue affecting Windows devices due to an update from a third-party software platform. We anticipate a resolution is forthcoming.”

In a statement, the CEO of Crowdstrike, George Kurtz, the CEO of Crowdstrike, said: “Crowdstrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts.

“Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack. The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed.

“We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website.

“We further recommend organizations ensure they’re communicating with Crowdstrike representatives through official channels. Our team is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of Crowdstrike customers.”
