Elon Musk has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by a member of European Parliament.
If you thought Elon Musk had a big 2024, that's nothing compared to what his 2025 is shaping up to look like. Further cementing himself as the world's richest man toward the end of 2024, the post-election boom in the tech world saw him become the first person in the world to be worth over $400 billion. Donald Trump's self-appointed 'First Buddy' has seen his wealth continue to climb, and although he's just wiped $5 billion off his worth, he's worth $412.9 billion at the time of writing.
Money can't buy you everything, and hoping to add to his already impressive awards collection, the SpaceX CEO has just been put forward for the Nobel Peace Prize - yes, you read that right.

Musk already has a slew of awards including the Edison Achievement Award for his innovation, a Global Green award, and being named Time's Person of the Year in 202. Then again, that’s nothing compared to the Nobel Peace Prize.
Slovenian Member of the European Parliament Branko Grims has officially nominated Elon Musk for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. It comes as the MEP asks the committee to consider Musk's fight for freedom of speech, which he claims adds to global peace.
Posting on X, Grims wrote: "The proposal that Mr. Elon Musk, for his consistent support for the fundamental human right of freedom of speech and thus for peace, receives the Nobel Peace Prize 2025, was successfully submitted today."

He went on to thank his co-proposers and those who helped the 'challenging project'. There seems to be more to this, as one post celebrating the news has been slapped with a community note. While Musk has technically been nominated by Grims, that doesn't mean he's been shortlisted.
The deadline for the Nobel Peace Prize 'suggestions' is January 31, with the Nobel Committee wading through the hundreds of applications in mid-February and creating a shortlist for further examination. Deliberations take place until September, with the Norwegian Nobel Committee making the eventual decision ahead of the award's announcement in October 2025.
With previous Nobel Peace Prize winners including Nelson Mandela, former President Jimmy Carter, and even the United Nations, Musk's political leanings and vocal outbursts on X mean you might not immediately think of him as a potential nominee.
Still, it's Musk's defense that X should be a place where users can express their opinions that's seen Grims put him forward.

Others were less convinced, with one critic looking to the past and writing: "Hitler was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1939. AS A JOKE. Which is exactly what it will become forever if Elon Musk’s nomination stands."
Another raged: "The fact that Elon Musk is nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for 'Free Speech Advocacy' is insane when you realize he does the opposite.
"He suppresses those who he disagrees with using algorithms and has manipulated European and NA politics to elect right-wing politicians."
Of course, there were just as many in Musk's corner. One supporter said: "Elon gives all people, regardless left or right, the chance to speak out. He absolutely deserves the Nobel Peace Prize."

There was also Adrian Dittmann, the man some are convinced is Elon himself, who concluded: "Elon's contributions to preserving free speech are invaluable. We enjoy it every day here on X, so I really hope he gets the Nobel Peace Prize."
