Elon Musk has said that Ukraine ‘needs an election’ after claims were made that Trump is reportedly holding ‘secret talks’ with Ukrainian opposition leaders in a bid for an election to be held.
The Trump administration hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last Friday (February 28) where tense talks resulted in Zelensky being escorted off the premises.
Taking to his own social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Trump’s ‘first buddy’ claimed that a Ukrainian election would see the country’s leader ‘lose by a landslide’.

Musk reposted a tweet from a Conservative account, who wrote: “Trump’s team has met with key Ukrainian opposition leaders to discuss holding emergency elections to replace Zelensky. Regime change may be the only path to peace avoiding a global war.”
In response, Musk added his own thoughts, saying: “Ukraine needs to hold an election. Zelensky would lose by a landslide.”
Many people took to X to reply to the billionaire, with one user writing: “As soon as Russia pulls out of their territory and stops bombing their hotels and apartment buildings. How’s that sound?”

Another said: “Just a curiosity: who elected you?”
And a third person added: “The Ukraine’s constitution law doesn’t allow election during the war. The US has no right to interfere [with] other country election.”
It has been reported that four senior members of the Trump administration have held secret talks with the Ukrainian opposition leader with discussions focussing on whether the country could hold a snap election.

Trump has claimed that Zelensky is a ‘dictator’ for not holding an election, despite the fact that it is banned under martial law in the Ukrainian constitution.
Speaking to The Telegraph, one MP from the People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Oleksiy Goncharenko, said that it was ‘physically impossible’ to hold elections in the country right now.
He said: “I am no fan of Zelensky but it is just not possible given our current security circumstances. The law forbids it.
“What would happen if people who are voting are being attacked? And you’re not just speaking about voting day, elections occur over a campaign, it’s impossible.”

Musk has been very vocal of his disapproval of Zelensky in recent months, having previously labelled him as ‘evil’ on social media and accused him of being a ‘dictator’ in another.
In one post, the Tesla boss wrote: “Either Zelensky holds an election to prove that he represents the will of the people or he is a dictator.”
