One YouTuber recently experienced AI replacing his job in the most ironic way possible.
YouTuber Alex Wei didn't have such a great start to the new year as his recent video title puts it: "Happy 2025. I Lost My Freelance Writing Job To AI."
In the video, Alex shared how his side hustle as a freelance writer vanished thanks to AI.

He explained that he usually received around 3-4 articles a month to write for his company but found it 'unusual' when they weren't sending him any tasks to do.
Although this writing gig wasn't Alex's main source of income, he claimed it to be a 'good side hustle' that he started back in college.
"They hadn't been giving me new articles to write. So I was curious," he described.
"One day I decided to go look and check out their blog section just to see what's going on. [...]When I actually clicked on the blog page for their site, I was kind of shocked to see what I saw."

The blog was far from inactive. Instead of the usual one post a week, the website was now churning out four posts weekly.

Looking at the quality of the articles, it wasn't long until Alex realised the company had been using AI to produce their articles - and that his company no longer needed him.
If losing the gig wasn’t enough, and sharing his pretty sobering experience on YouTube, AI did a thing.
Below Alex's video description was a summary of what the video was about - and it was AI-generated.
The irony here is that the same technology that had replaced his job was now summing up his story for potential viewers. And it essentially acts as a shortcut to skip watching the entire video.

The summary read: "The speaker shares their experience of losing a freelance writing job to AI [...]. The speaker reflects on the implications of this for the future of work and the potential for AI to disrupt creative fields."
People couldn't resist the irony and took to Reddit to share their humour.
"The irony here is crazy," the first user wrote.

"Pouring salt on the wound, I see," another added.
Someone else joked: "The AI wasn't even satisfied with taking his job, it also needed to take his views."
One other user chimed in: "It is really interesting to see that when the concept of the AI first came out, people thought most of the physical jobs will be replaced but the reality was completely opposite."
Jokes aside though, Alex's video feels like a stark reminder of how AI isn’t just replacing manual or hospitality jobs as we thought. It's leaving a lot of creators in the dark about where they stand in their roles next to these fast-paced tech developments.
