Amazon's Alexa is more than our daily query handler.

In October 2023, the multi-national e-commerce company rolled out a potentially life-saving feature for medical emergencies, thanks to a collaboration with Our Child's Keeper and Safe Kids CPR.

It's called Safe Kids CPR and what it does is it equips parents and caregivers with essential life-saving skills.

Designed to assist parents in choking incidents, the novel feature provides step-by-step CPR guidance.

Following the launch, Amazon's official website reads: 'Presented by Mark Wilhelmsson, a Certified Pediatric and Adult CPR, AED and First Aid Instructor, Safe Kids CPR was created to teach parents and caregivers age-specific life-saving skills to prepare for an emergency.

'Most parents aren’t aware that how you save a baby under the age of 1 and how you save a child over the age of 1 are entirely different skill sets in choking and CPR emergencies.

'This powerful new Alexa Skill walks you through each scenario step by step with pause, rewind (10 seconds) and restart features.'

The feature involves three main components.

Choking Rescue Assistance guides users through the steps to clear a child's airway, potentially saving their life.

Clear CPR instructions are given that are appropriate to perform on a baby or a child older than one year.

And interactive practice allows users to practice the correct CPR and choking rescue techniques to build muscle memory and confidence.

To open the feature, simply say 'Alexa, open Safe Kids CPR' to which Alexa will then ask you: 'Is your child more than 1 year old?'

Once you answer, it will take you into that age-specific rescue sequence.

You can pause the introductory video at any time or go back to certain points to practice.

'We believe that every parent should be able to respond effectively in emergencies involving their children,' said Mark Wilhelmsson, CEO of Our Child's Keeper and creator of Safe Kids CPR.

'Safe Kids CPR brings the expertise of emergency medical professionals into homes and gives parents the tools they need to save lives.'

Amazon also states that the company does not provide medical opinions, advice, treatment or diagnosis and the feature should be for informational and educational purposes.
