If you’ve ever wondered what humans might evolve to look like in the future, then search no further, because artificial intelligence has done the work for you - and it’s pretty terrifying.
An AI bot has created a horrifying image of what it believes humans will look like a million years from now.
ChatGPT was tasked with imagining the appearance of humans in one million years based on ‘speculative evolutionary biology, technological trends, and environmental projections’.
Explaining the image, the AI said: “The image is a thought experiment, a composite of current scientific theories, environmental trends, and speculative storytelling.”

Here are some of the reasons it gave for the scary image it presented:
First up, the chatbot showed humans with ‘cranial expansion’, explaining: “Larger heads and skulls are often theorized due to ongoing brain evolution, particularly if artificial intelligence and complex problem-solving remain central to our lives.”

It also predicted that we will have smaller faces and jaws due to our diets becoming ‘processed and less reliant on chewing’.
This will cause the jaw side to shrink, which is already a trend in recent human evolution.
Another change is with our eyes, which ChatGPT believes will increase in size.
The AI continued: “In environments with less natural light (e.g., space habitats or indoor life), larger eyes might evolve to improve low-light vision.”
With many physical tasks potentially being handed over to machines, it’s possible that humans will see their physical features reduced, with less muscle mass and more slender or delicate, energy-efficient builds.

According to the bot, we’ll also have less hair in the future, as it said: “A smooth, hairless body might result from climate control technology and shifting aesthetic preferences—or gene editing.”
ChatGPT went on to say: “As humans intermix globally and/or adapt to artificial lighting environments (e.g., space or domed cities), regional skin tone differences may blur, leading to a more uniform pigmentation.

“Narrower noses and longer necks may aid in heat dissipation in a warming climate or altered habitats.” Apparently, our homes of the future will help sculpt what we'll look like in the far future.
However, despite the environmental changes humans are likely to experience over time, our appearances might not be entirely shaped by natural evolution.
Instead, the AI believes that some changes might be impacted by ‘deliberate genetic design’.

The bot continued: “This could enhance health, intelligence, or aesthetic traits - leading to highly uniform or idealized appearances.”
All of this depends on there being a human race left in a million years, assuming that aliens, angry AI robots, or asteroids haven't wiped us out.
