Just last week, Xbox-exclusive games like Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush were released for PlayStation gamers. Other games like Pentiment and Grounded also made their way to Nintendo Switch consoles.
However, rumours started circulating that the Microsoft-owned company might be abandoning console hardware altogether.
Xbox disputed these claims, reassuring its players that a new console is indeed in development.

During a recent Xbox Podcast, the president of Xbox, Sarah Bond, said that there would be information on a new console in mid-2024.
'There’s some exciting stuff coming out in hardware that we’re going to share,' Bond hinted.
A presentation leaked by Xbox, during the FTC court case, showed a sneak peek of a new Xbox Series X - codenamed Brooklin.

Brooklin would be a white, cylindrical Xbox Series X rather than a cuboid. Most notably, the console will not feature a disc drive.
According to the documents, the console will offer 2TB of internal storage (1TB more than the series X), a front-facing USB-C port and support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
Other than that, it’s pretty much a touch-up of the same machine, just without a disc drive.
In response to the leaks, some Xbox users have announced that they're going to start selling their Xbox consoles.

'I've decided I'm going to sell my Xbox Series X,' one X user shared.
The Xbox fan posted on X that they going to sell their current console and get 'the rumored white all digital Xbox Series X'. They claimed they 'don't use the disc drive' and that the white colour will match their TV stand. The fan also mentioned the appeal of the 'controller refresh.'
Although, some fans are confused at the rash decision in that a digital-only console limits the options for purchasing games, as any physical copies are ruled out.

One comment read: 'Why would you sell something to buy something with LESS options?'
Plus, it gets rid of the option of ever being able to put a disc inside, one person wrote. 'I have yet to use the disc drive on mine but I’m like I already bought it and maybe someday it’ll get some kind of use like a 4k blu ray or something… I don’t know I just don’t want to lose the option,' they commented.
However, the potential drawback doesn't bother everyone. Another respondent said: 'I’ve never once put a disk in my XSX. No need IMO. Treat it like my PC. No physical.'
Xbox fans can expect to see a scheduled release date for the disc-free console around October 2024, according to the leak.

Bond added: 'We’re also invested in the next-generation roadmap. What we’re really focused on there is delivering the largest technical leap you will have ever seen in a hardware generation.'
