Tech company Nothing is launching its next smartphone, a budget-friendly alternative for tech owners, the Nothing Phone 2a.

The London-based tech brand is known for making affordable devices, offering cheaper alternatives than industry giants like Apple or Samsung.

The upcoming Phone 2a will be officially revealed at a launch event on March 5, which will be livestreamed on YouTube for all to see. The event is part of the company's plan to build excitement among fans by giving them a sneak preview of the device's design and features.

Lead designer Jon Weightman teased that the Nothing Phone 2a will be 'quite different' from its pricier predecessor.

The new Android phone steps away from the usual smartphone camera design and features a duo lens that looks somewhat like a pair of eyes. In the latest promotional video, Nothing wrote the words 'Fresh Eyes'.

And if that didn't sound human enough, behind the camera, Nothing promised a 'hub of intelligence' with fast performance and functionality to the capabilities of a human brain.

Powered by Dimensity 7200 Pro chipset, other expected specs of the Phone 2a include a 6.7” OLED, 256GB internal storage, 12GB RAM, and a 50 MP main camera.

Nothing also boasts the Phone 2a's 90-degree angle cover, which wraps around the edges resulting in a slick appearance.

Reportedly, the Phone 2a will still offer its beloved feature of the glowing Glyph Interface. The company's exclusive Glyph lights on the back of the device flash and light up to notify the users of incoming calls or texts, and can be fully customised.

Moreover, the updated design will enhance the gadget's durability, making the device more resistant to damage from accidental drops.

Nothing said it has designed a camera ‘bump’ that stabilises the phone when it’s lying flat and minimises 'finger obstructions' when taking a picture.

Additionally, Nothing CEO Carl Pei suggested that the 2a wouldn’t force ads or pre-installed apps on users as he believes them to be controversial features that users find distasteful.

According to some leaks, the Nothing Phone 2a will cost around £298 in Europe.

For comparison, last year's Nothing's Phone 2 sold at £549 providing 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, with the previous original Phone selling at £399 in 2022.
