With all the talk around Apple, Android smartphones usually get left in the shadows.
Well, Android users, this one's for you.
Apple's rival has recently released a smartphone that can go days without needing a charge.

What's more, is that it costs less than $500.
Android's launch of its OnePlus 12R smartphone has shocked tech users with its impressive battery performance.
The phone was put through a battery test whereby the phone surfs the web on mobile data until it essentially runs out of charge.

Its brightness was set up to 150 nits, although under the right conditions, the OnePlus can reportedly go up to 4,1000 nits of brightness.
The battery on the OnePlus 12R was found to last around 18 hours and 42 minutes. This performance earned it the title of 'runner-up for the longest-lasting phone' ever tested by Tom's Guide.
Possessing a power-efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the OnePlus 12R is the only phone that has surpassed the strong-matched ASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro - by only 6 minutes! Both phones share the same battery size of 5,500 mAh.
Tom's Guide has performed tests on many different phones, putting them through one standardised under the same condition such as brightness level for a fair comparison.

The tech expert's test previously established that the average smartphone 'lasts around 10 hours.'
'A result longer than 12 hours indicates that a phone will last a very long time on a charge, especially for tasks that are less demanding than web surfing for hours on end,' it stated on the Tom's Guide website.
So, what makes the battery performance so good?

Android’s OnePlus 12R dials back on some features that are present in its pricier, front-runner counterpart - which, for one, is why it's selling cheaper at less than $500 rather than the latter of $799.
Another reason is the different in chipset generation, with the OnePlus 12 featuring the newest Gen 3 and the 12R running Gen 2. However, tech users shouldn't be discouraged by this as the Gen 2 chipset was only released last year in 2023.
According to Tom's Guide: 'Phones running on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 tended to squeeze out more battery life than devices running on Qualcomm's previous silicon.'
Furthermore, the long-lasting smartphone comes with a compatible fast charger in the box, which means you don't need to factor in buying a whole separate power adapter.
