Smart rings are incredibly buzzy right now - particularly as Samsung has finally unveiled the prototype of the Galaxy Ring.
With long-standing market leader Oura dominating the last few years, it looks like other big players are now starting to chip in with their own smart rings - but tech giant Apple has been conspicuously absent so far.
But rumors are swirling that Apple is in fact working on its own smart ring - and even though everything is just speculation right now, it sounds like a really interesting concept.
Creator Sam Kohl has 137.6k followers on TikTok and mainly talks about Apple. His latest video is all about the rumored 'Apple Ring' - which he suggests would be another health-tracking device to slot into its lineup, next to the Apple Watch.

Kohl says the ring could be slightly less expensive based on others on the market (at nearly $200), as well as potentially being more streamlined.
It wouldn't have all the capabilities of a smartwatch, of course, sticking to tracking - rather than hosting calls and messages. Some of the concept images Kohl shows do feature a display on the ring, but that would be a really tricky thing for Apple to pull off.
After all, displays take up a lot of power, and a smart ring needs to last for a decent amount of time since they're generally marketed as something you can wear all week, including overnight, rather than charging most evenings like you would a phone or watch.
The TikTok has gone viral, with people incredibly pumped about the prospect of Apple making a smart ring - and there are plenty of comments to prove it.

One said: "If it’s cheaper than the Oura ring I’m copping omg," and got over 44 thousand likes to back them up, while another commented: "I’d honestly prefer this if it’s just one price without having a subscription like the Oura ring."
This makes it pretty clear that people want more competition for Oura, not least because that tends to breed innovation in tech. But there are also plenty of replies from people who are a little more defensive of Oura, including one person who wrote: "Oura ring spinoff."
This underlines the fact that Apple does often wait until a market is ripe before plunging in with an incredibly polished product that outclasses the competition, rather than blazing new trails itself.

Having said that, this argument is undermined by Apple's most recent and very high-profile launch, the mixed-reality Apple Vision Pro headset, which has been the talk of social media for a few weeks now.
This shows that Apple is indeed willing to experiment with new ideas, so perhaps a smart ring is on the way at some point.
