Apple seems to be revisiting older designs in its newest smartphone launch, according to leaks.
The upcoming iPhone 16 seems to be taking a step away from the diagonal camera setup that was apparent on the recent iPhone models 13 to 15. Consisting of a telephoto, ultra-wide angle and wide-angle camera, the design was quite large and so had to be placed diagonally.
Despite this, the unique design gave the iPhone 13, 14 and 15 ranges their distinct look.

Now, the tech giant's upcoming iPhone 16 seems to be reverting to an old look.
Apple's recently launched Vision Pro headset incorporates spatial video, which is why the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max both provide this feature.
However, Apple wants its future iPhones to capture spatial video which is only possible with a vertical camera. According to leaks, people are convinced this is precisely what Apple is planning for the iPhone 16.

The only other Apple smartphones to contain the two rear-facing vertical cameras were the iPhone X, iPhone 11, and iPhone 12.
Majin Bu leaked the likely iPhone 16 camera design on X with the caption: 'This would appear to be the new camera module of the iPhone 16, as you can see the vertical positioning is confirmed'.
The majority of responses to the post agree with the strong possibility of the vertical camera's reoccurrence.
One user commented: 'I won’t be surprised if they go back to vertical cameras in base model to enable Spatial video recording for Apple Vision Pro.'

Another suspected the reason to be persuasion to buy further Apple products, writing: 'I am wondering if it's vertical in order to shoot Spatial Videos and induce more people to buy the Vision Pro.
Other Apple fans argued that the camera would 'probably the other way around' with the lower lens being the ultrawide camera and the main camera being the larger lens on top.
MacRumors is among the Apple iPhone 16 leakers and is considered reliable and credible in his previous leaks.

Verifying Bu's post, he said:
'Through our industry sources, we are able to confirm that the item featured in Bu’s post is the main camera chassis for the I-34 camera project, intended for use in the base model iPhone 16 set to be released later this year.'
