iPhone users rave about Apple Pay trick that can save you in an emergency

The feature works even if your iPhone needs charging.

iPhone users will be familiar with the convenient Apple Pay which makes paying for items so much easier.

Instead of digging through your wallet for your card, like a lot of other things, payment can be made from your smartphone.

Apple users have come across two tricks that make the feature even easier.

Apple launched Express Mode in iOS which allows users to use Apple Pay without Touch ID or Face ID. This is especially helpful when travelling on the London Underground for example.

On the official Apple website, it states: 'With Express Mode, you can use some of your cards, keys, and passes in the Wallet app without waking or unlocking your device, or authenticating with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.'

One happy Apple fan said: 'I loved using Express Transit in San Francisco and New York. I go about twice a month.'

The second trick on the pay feature is that you don't even need to unlock your phone to pay for things. Not only that, the device potentially doesn't even need to have a battery charge in order for Express Mode to work.

According to Apple: 'You may be able to use your Express Mode cards, passes, and keys, even when your iPhone needs to be charged. Power reserve works for up to 5 hours with some cards, passes, and keys that have Express Mode turned on.'

One Reddit user enjoys the feature, commenting: 'I recently found out, by accident, that it's possible to still use your Transit card even if your phone happens to die.

'I was blown away, I already knew about using it by essentially swiping the reader, but not this.'

However, this feature only works if the iPhone has powered down into reserve mode. So, it won't work if you power down the device manually nor will continuously pressing the side button or Home button, as this drains the power and stops the feature from working.

If you want to set up Express Mode on your Apple device, simply:

  • Open the Wallet app.
  • Choose a card, pass, or key for Express Mode.
  • Tap on the More button and then Card Details.
  • Choose Express Transit Settings or Express Mode.
  • Select your preferred payment card, or other compatible pass or key - and Express Mode should be all set up.
